Prep Baseball Louisiana: 2028 State Rankings Risers (August 2026)

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Yesterday, we released our updated state rankings update, for the 2028 class, now that the summer season has come to an end.  Throughout the summer, our staff traveled across the state, to see as many prospects and teams as possible, and we were able to see more prospects than we've ever seen before.  Our state rankings for the 2028 class expanded to 270 players in total for this update, and there were plenty of movers and shakers throughout the list.  Today, we take a look at a few guys that made a move up in this rankings update.

STATE RANKINGS RISERS (2028 CLASS)

Logan Maricle LHP / Grace Christian School, LA / 2028

From 07/29/26: "After posting one of the most eye-popping statistical seasons in the country this spring—recording 190 strikeouts in 90 innings—Maricle carried that dominance with him to the Future Games. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound left-hander worked the third and fourth innings against Arkansas and was simply overpowering, allowing no hits or runs while striking out the first five hitters he faced.

Maricle's fastball sat 88-90 mph but consistently played above its velocity thanks to nearly seven feet of extension, allowing it to get on hitters in a hurry. He paired it with a sharp 75-77 mph breaking ball that he confidently landed for strikes in any count, keeping Arkansas hitters off balance throughout his outing. Between his advanced pitchability, deceptive fastball, and ability to command both offerings, Maricle once again proved why he's one of the top left-handed arms in Louisiana's 2028 class."

Lane Holubec RHP / OF / West Monroe, LA / 2028

From 07/29/26: "Holubec gave Louisiana a completely different look out of the bullpen and was instrumental in closing out the team's Game 2 victory over Arkansas. The physical 6-foot-3, 225-pound right-hander fired two scoreless innings while showcasing one of the more deceptive deliveries on this year's staff.

The West Monroe product works exclusively from the stretch with a cross-fire delivery and lower arm slot that creates significant deception and allows him to hide the baseball until late. His 86-90 mph fastball featured heavy arm-side sink and run, making it an especially uncomfortable at-bat for right-handed hitters. He complemented it with a mid-70s slider that flashed sweeping horizontal break across the zone and projects as a potential swing-and-miss weapon as it continues to develop. Holubec's combination of size, deception, movement, and competitive presence made him one of the more intriguing bullpen arms Louisiana featured throughout the week."

Cooper Templet OF / St. Amant, LA / 2028

From 07/29/26: "A varsity starter since his freshman season at St. Amant, Templet showed exactly why he's regarded as one of the premier hitters in Louisiana by thriving on one of the biggest stages of the summer. With nearly 500 college coaches in attendance, the 5-foot-8, 185-pound left-handed hitter stole the spotlight during Wednesday's workout, consistently finding the barrel with a remarkable 100% sweet spot rate while posting a Louisiana-best 103.8 mph max exit velocity. He also turned in the top 60-yard dash among the Louisiana contingent, blazing a laser-timed 6.59.

As impressive as the workout was, Templet was even better once the games began. Across three contests, he went 5-for-8 (.625) with a home run, two RBI, and three stolen bases, consistently producing quality at-bats against some of the top pitching in the country. His advanced bat-to-ball skills, disciplined strike-zone awareness, and ability to impact the baseball were on full display throughout the week. After one of the most complete offensive performances at the Future Games, Templet undoubtedly elevated his recruiting stock and figures to be one of the most heavily pursued Louisiana high school hitters when the contact period opens on August 1."

Quinn Fiasconaro OF / RHP / Sam Houston, LA / 2028

From 07/28/26: "Boasting a physical 6-foot-1, 206-pound frame, Fiasconaro flashed some of the best raw power during the workout portion of the event and carried that same offensive firepower into game action. The Sam Houston standout was on the barrel seemingly every trip to the plate, finishing the week 5-for-9 (.556) with three doubles, two RBI, and three stolen bases. Two of his doubles were driven to the opposite field, highlighting his ability to impact the baseball from gap to gap rather than relying solely on pull-side power. He also displayed advanced plate discipline throughout the week, never striking out while consistently producing quality at-bats against elite competition."

Reese Jones OF / Doyle, LA / 2028

From 06/28/26: "Physical and athletic 6-foot-2, 198-pound frame with a strong combination of size, strength, and athleticism. Jones was one of the more intriguing position players to emerge from the Underclass Top Prospect Games, consistently producing hard contact from gap-to-gap and averaging an impressive 95.6 mph off the bat with a max exit velocity of 100.4 mph. His athleticism showed up in the testing portion as well, where he tied for the second-best 10-yard split at 1.61 seconds and posted a 6.92-second 60-yard dash. Add in arm strength up to 87 mph from the outfield and Jones possesses one of the more complete and intriguing tool sets in Louisiana's 2028 class."
