Midwest Super Sophomore Games: Team Wisconsin Takeaways

From Friday 7/31 to Sunday 8/2, our staff hosted the Midwest Super Sophomore Games at Indiana University, a showcase followed by a round-robin tournament with a handful of the surrounding states (Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and Illinois). 

Team Wisconsin went 3-1 in gameplay to finish second overall, defeating Team Michigan 5-3, Team Indiana 11-9, Team Ohio 4-3, and falling to Team Ilinois 14-2.

Today, we are taking a look at every single player from Team Wisconsin with a scouting report from the event, found below. 

Position Players 

 + C Kael Boenitz (Menomonee Falls, 2029): Athletic and proportional 5-foot-9, 164-pound frame. Boenitz showcased advanced actions behind the plate, with soft hands, blocking instincts, and a quick transfer, achieving a peak pop time of 1.93 during the showcase portion of the event. At the plate, Boenitz presents a simple approach with feel to lift to the pull-side. Name to keep an eye on going forward. 

+ OF Tyson Carr (Marquette, 2029): Lean, athletic, and long-levered 6-foot-4, 167-pound frame with room for added strength. Carr presented one of the more intriguing profiles of the event, showcasing athleticism on both sides of the ball. Athletic routes in the outfield with long strides, achieving a peak outfield velocity of 82 mph. At the plate, Carr showcases a smooth, on plane LH swing with a gap-to-gap approach, achieving a peak exit velocity of 98 mph during the workout portion of the event and bringing that into game play, finding the barrel multiple times. 

+ C Bentley Henrickson (Lincoln, 2029): Athletic 5-foot-11, 165-pound frame with more room for added strength. At the plate, Henrickson showcases an on-plane swing with feel to lift to all fields, achieving a peak exit velocity of 91 mph during the workout portion of the event, and hitting a double down the right-field line in the final game of the event. A strong defender behind the plate, Henrickson showcases soft hands behind the plate with feel for the zone, strong catch and throw traits, and adjustability that allows for strong blocking ability. 

+ SS Beckett Hermus (Kimberly, 2029): Twitchy and athletic 6-foot, 170-pound frame. Looking the part as a high-end defender at short, Hermus was a winner from the event, making multiple plays at short, and showing well at the plate as well. With a quick, twitchy bat, Hermus achieved a peak exit velocity of 101 mph and an average exit velocity of 96 mph during the showcase portion of the event with feel to lift, translating into game play where he hit a no-doubt home run to right-center field in game one. 

+ 3B Porter Meach (St. Francis Xavier, 2029): Strong 6-foot-1, 213-pound frame. Simple operation at the plate with strength throughout. Gap-to-gap approach with feel to lift, achieving a peak exit velocity of 100 mph and an average exit velocity of 91 during the workout portion of the event. Athletic mover on the infield with quick footwork and feel for the pocket. 

+ C Cash Panosian (Wilmot, 2029): Athletic and proportional 5-foot-11, 175-pound frame. At the plate Panosian presents a simple operation with quick hands that produced loud line-drive contact throughout game play, finding the barrel for multiple 90+ exit velocities throughout the three games. Soft hands and strong actions/ instincts behind the plate, commanding the game with feel and achieving a peak pop time of 2.01 with a 79 catcher velocity during the workout portion of the event with blocking ability to pair. 

+ OF Oliver Peltz (Whitefish Bay, 2029): Strong and athletic 6-foot, 177-pound frame. Peltz presents the tools to profile as one of the premier athletes in the state. A 6.73 runner, the speed and athleticism play in the outfield, covering ground efficiently with long, athletic strides, achieving an outfield velocity of 92 mph to pair. At the plate, Peltz achieved a peak exit velocity of 93 mph with a strong barrel that stays in the zone which translated to game play, showcasing bat-to-ball traits. 

+ SS Colin Peterson (Pewaukee, 2029): Lean and athletic 6-foot, 165-pound frame. Athletic mover on the infield with bounce and clean footwork with range to both sides and an accurate throwing arm from multiple angles, achieving an infield velocity of 78 mph. Smooth LH swing with a barrel that stays in the zone and strong bat-to-ball traits, achieving a peak exit velocity of 93.5 mph during the workout portion, translating into multiple barrels during game one action. Name to know in Wisconsin’s class of 2029.

+ INF Caleb Reuland (Appleton North, 2029): Athletic 6-foot, 174-pound frame. Strong barrel and quick hands at the plate, achieving a peak exit velocity of 98 mph and an average exit velocity of 90 mph during the workout portion of the event with feel to lift while averaging 23.4 mph hand speed. This translated into game play, driving in a run with a double to deep center field during the final game of the event. 

+ OF/1B Eastin Sorenson (Chippewa Falls, 2029): Long-levered and strong 6-foot-4, 180-pound frame. Sorenson presents an athletic profile with the ability to play the outfield and first base with long, athletic strides. At the plate, Sorenson produced consistent hard contact, achieving a peak exit velocity of 99 mph and an average exit velocity of 90 mph during the workout portion of the event. A simple mover with a gap-to-gap line-drive approach, Sorenson is a name to keep an eye on as he continues to develop. 

Two-Ways

+ LHP/1B Trent Demeuse (Preble, 2029): Strong 6-foot-1, 230-pound frame. Demeuse showed well on the mound, striking out two batters in as many innings of work while working through wet weather conditions. The fastball worked at 80-84 mph with carry, and the breaking ball worked at 67-70 mph with bite while also flashing a changeup at 74 mph. At the plate, he showcased feel for the barrel with feel to lift, achieving a max exit velocity of 96 mph and an average exit velocity of 88 mph during the workout portion of the event.

+ RHP/INF Sutton Nelson (Waupun, 2029): Twitchy and athletic 5-foot-11, 155-pound frame. On the mound, Nelson struck out four batters across two innings of work in wet weather conditions, utilizing a three-pitch mix. The fastball worked at 86-89 mph, averaging 2,300 RPM. To pair, he utilized a breaking ball at 71-75 mph and 2,500+ RPM with feel for the zone, and a changeup at 71-74 mph averaging 16.3” of horizontal movement. Quick, wiry arm on the mound with feel for the zone. Athletic mover in the infield with smooth footwork and feel for the pocket. The arm plays well from multiple angles and plays with life across the infield. At the plate, Nelson is a simple mover with a line-drive approach, achieving a peak exit velocity of 95 mph during the workout portion of the event. 

+ OF/ LHP Robert Perez II (Bay Port, 2029): Athletic 5-foot-10, 169-pound frame. At the plate, Perez II showcased advanced bat-to-ball traits, achieving a peak exit velocity of 94 mph during the showcase portion of the event and carried this into game play, working counts consistently and producing hard contact including a double against team Indiana (96 mph EV). Athletic mover in the outfield, achieving an outfield velocity of 89 mph. The athleticism transfers to the mound out of a simple operation, utilizing a three-pitch mix with the fastball working at 80-84 mph, the slider working at 68-74 mph, and the changeup working at 75-78 mph with feel for the zone with all three. 

+ RHP/INF Heath Rosemeyer (Fall Creek, 2029): Strong and athletic 5-foot-11, 180-pound frame. Rosemeyer took the mound in game one, striking out three batters in as many innings, utilizing a three pitch mix with the fastball settling in the low-80s range (2,269+ RPM), a slider working at 69-73 mph, and flashing a changeup at 78 mph. At the plate, Rosemeyer showcased feel for the barrel, picking up two hits in game one as well, achieving a peak exit velocity of 95 mph and an average exit velocity of 88 mph during the showcase portion of the event. 

Pitchers

+ LHP Ty Ziesemer (Lake Country Lutheran, 2029): Striking out three batters in two innings of work, Ziesemer showcased strong feel to pitch against a strong lineup, utilizing a three pitch mix with the fastball settling in at 70-80 mph with two shapes, a breaking ball at 67-72 mph, and a changeup at 73-75 mph. A simple, repeatable mover on the mound, Ziesemer showed feel to land each pitch for strikes, generating weak contact and whiffs throughout. 

+ RHP Brady Seim (Sun Prairie, 2029): Long-levered 6-foot-3, 193-pound frame with room for added strength. Seim came out as one of the biggest winners from the event, striking out three batters across two innings of work showing feel for a two pitch mix. The fastball settled in in the mid-to-upper-80s, touching 89 mph multiple times, while mixing in a slider at 75-77 mph (2,327+ RPM) with feel to land for strikes. Name to follow. 

+ LHP Gabriel Seifert (Jefferson, 2029): Long-levered 6-foot-2, 184-pound frame with room for added strength. Striking out four batters in 2+ innings of work on the mound against Team Illinois, Seifert showcased a unique profile with funk. The fastball worked at 75-80 mph and worked with carry, generating whiffs, while the breaking ball worked at 65-68 mph, generating 2,400+ RPM. Name to follow.  

+ RHP Erik Muresan (Arrowhead, 2029): Long-levered 6-foot-4, 177-pound frame with room for added strength. Loose mover with feel to spin. On the mound, the fastball worked at 79-81 mph, averaging 2,100 RPM. To pair, Muresan utilized a breaking ball at 66-69 mph, averaging 2,300 RPM. Name to keep an eye on as he continues to develop. 

+ RHP Carter Hyland (Waukesha West, 2029): Long-levered and athletic 6-foot-4, 180-pound frame with room for added strength. Hyland utilized a three-pitch mix on the mound, with the fastball working in the upper-70’s and topping out at 80 mph, the slider working at 69-71 mph and averaging 2,019 RPM, and a changeup at 73-76 mph, averaging 14.8 HM.

+ RHP Cooper Graham (Mukwonago, 2029): Strong 6-foot-3, 229-pound frame. In two innings of work on the mound, Graham utilized a two-pitch mix, with the fastball working at 85-88 mph, topping out at 88.5 mph and the breaking ball working at 71-76 mph and working with 2,300+ RPM. A simple mover with easy arm strength and stuff, Graham continues to be a name to keep an eye on. 

+ LHP Henri Alesci (Sussex Hamilton, 2029): Athletic 5-foot-9, 160-pound frame. Presenting an intriguing look on the mound, Alesci utilizes a three pitch mix with feel for each. The fastball worked in the low-80s, topping out at 83 mph. The slider worked well off of it, working upwards of 2,500 RPM throughout the outing. Made quick work on the mound in game, turning in two strong, efficient innings, working in the zone and generating weak contact throughout.
