Alabama 2028 Rankings: Newcomers to Know

ALABAMA - The latest update to Alabama’s 2028 Rankings expanded the class to 150 prospects following a pivotal spring and summer evaluation period, bringing a strong collection of new names onto the board. Additional in-game looks, summer events, verified data, and continued development provided our staff with a deeper look at the class as these prospects head into their junior years.
A debut in the rankings does not necessarily represent a first look or a newly discovered prospect. Many of the players featured below have been on our staff’s radar through previous evaluations, but their performance and development over the past several months provided additional information to establish their place within the class.
Below, we take a closer look at some of the more notable debuts in the expanded Alabama 2028 Top-150 and what earned each prospect a spot on the board.
RHP Colter Prescott (Hewitt-Trussville, AL)
Debuts at: No. 15
Prescott was a major stock-up arm for our staff this summer and established himself as one of the top arms in the 2028 class. There’s plenty to like physically with a lean, projectable 6-foot-3, 180-pound frame that still has significant room to fill out. Moves cleanly down the mound with an easy delivery and has steadily seen the stuff tick up, working 85-88 mph and touching 89 at the Future Games after reaching 90 mph at an ID earlier in the summer. Both the slider and changeup are serviceable at present with room to continue developing behind the fastball. The varsity track record is still relatively limited, largely due to the amount of quality pitching at Hewitt-Trussville, but we expect Prescott to push for some important innings next spring. Projectable 6-foot-3 right-handers with present arm strength are always going to draw attention, and Prescott has plenty of ingredients to keep trending upward.
RHP Aiden Trammell (Lincoln, AL)
Debuts at: No. 19
Trammell was another right-handed arm who saw his stock take off this summer, with strong looks at both the Wiregrass Summer ID and Future Games pushing him all the way into the Top-20. The lean, athletic 6-foot, 169-pound right-hander works with some tempo in the delivery and a clean, loose arm from a high three-quarter slot. The fastball has made a jump, working 87-88 mph and touching 89 with heavy arm-side action, averaging 19.7 inches of horizontal movement. Shows both a curveball at 73-74 mph and slider at 74-75 mph with distinct shapes and spin north of 2250 RPM, while also showing feel to kill spin on a 77-79 mph changeup. There’s already quality stuff across the arsenal, and the athleticism, arm action, and remaining physical projection give Trammell plenty of room to keep climbing.
LHP Mac Nunnally (Pell City, AL)
Debuts at: No. 45
Nunnally has taken a noticeable step with his stuff over the past few months and still looks to have plenty more in the tank. The athletic 6-foot, 175-pound southpaw has a lean, projectable frame with room to add strength and moves well on the mound with a clean, repeatable delivery. The fastball has climbed into the mid-80s and reached 88.2 mph at the Future Games, showing another gear from what we had seen earlier in the summer. Pairs it with a mid-70s slider that shows bite and quality horizontal action, while also showing feel to turn over a changeup with fading action to the arm side. There’s pitchability already present with three quality offerings, and the recent velocity gains paired with the athleticism and remaining physical projection make Nunnally an intriguing left-handed arm in the class.
C Brody McDavid (Daphne, AL)
Debuts at: No. 48
McDavid brings one of the more physical offensive profiles among the new additions to the rankings. At 6-foot, 205 pounds, the right-handed hitter has real strength throughout the frame and profiles as a middle-of-the-order bat. There’s plenty of bat speed and impact in the swing with strong hands and the ability to do damage when he gets the barrel out front. Also controls the running game well, adding value beyond the offensive upside. There’s legitimate power in the profile already, and continued production against quality arms could have McDavid pushing further up the board.
RHP/3B Ty Nance (Rehobeth, AL)
Debuts at: No. 52
Nance earns his debut after continuing to show a starter-type look throughout the summer. The physical 6-foot, 190-pound right-hander repeats a clean delivery and consistently fills the zone, showing the ability to attack hitters rather than simply rely on his stuff. Worked 82-85 mph and reached 86 with the fastball in our tournament look, featuring arm-side run and playing quickly on hitters. The breaking ball is the separator, spinning consistently in the 2700s with sharp action and the ability to manipulate its shape depending on the situation. Shows confidence landing it in the zone or expanding with it for swing-and-miss, and tunnels it well off the fastball against hitters from both sides.
SS Holton Smith (Carroll, AL)
Debuts at: No. 60
Smith debuts inside the Top-60 after showing well throughout the summer and looks like an under-the-radar name to know in the class. The 6-foot-1, 161-pound shortstop has a lean, athletic frame with plenty of room to add strength as he matures. There’s some twitch to the offensive profile, working with controlled actions in the load before firing a quick, explosive barrel on an uphill path through the zone. Consistently found the barrel while working through the middle of the field and produced a 96.1 mph exit velocity, with more impact likely to come as the frame fills out.
SS Caleb Glover (Oneonta, AL)
Debuts at: No. 62
Glover earns a spot in the rankings after arguably being the most impressive bat in our look at the ALABCA event this summer. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound right-handed hitter collected at least four hits in game action against quality arms and consistently looked comfortable in the box. Creates separation in the load before letting a quick, whippy barrel work on a clean path through the zone. There’s an ease to the operation with smooth, athletic actions, and the frame still has room to add more strength without sacrificing that looseness.
SS/RHP Logan Gotthelf (Auburn, AL)
Debuts at: No. 82
Gotthelf brings some two-way intrigue with a projectable 6-foot-3, 182-pound frame that still has plenty of room to develop. Offensively, creates good space in the right-handed swing with quality direction and a clean path through the zone, with more impact likely to come as he adds strength. The mound may ultimately be the more intriguing side of the profile. Works mostly in the low-80s with the fastball but has reached 86 mph, and it feels like there’s considerably more velocity to come given the frame and projection. Mixes in a mid-70s slider and also shows a changeup to round out the arsenal.
RHP Ben Daniel (Auburn, AL)
Debuts at: No. 84
Daniel debuts after showing an intriguing right-handed arm with athleticism and some projection still left in the profile at the Yellowhammer State Games. The 5-foot-10, 168-pound right-hander works with a clean arm action and repeatable operation, running the fastball 83-85 mph and reaching 85.2 with typical arm-side run. The slider gives him a quality secondary in the mid-70s, spinning up to 2399 RPM with late bite that plays well off the fastball.
OF Chase Williams (Oxford, AL)
Debuts at: No. 94
Williams debuts after showing a quality hit tool and an offensive approach that plays to the entire field. The 5-foot-10, 169-pound right-handed hitter stays on the baseball well, controlling the barrel through contact with a clean path and showing the ability to spray line drives from gap-to-gap. There’s some athleticism to the profile as well, turning in a 6.93 60-yard dash.
