2026 Parker Thundering Herd Team Preview

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2026 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Parker enters the 2026 season looking to take a clear step forward after an 18-15 finish in 2025, a year that saw the Thundering Herd lean heavily on a young roster while gaining valuable varsity experience. With all nine starters returning, this group now brings continuity, familiarity, and a full year of growth into a new season, positioning Parker to be a more consistent and competitive club in Class 6A, Area 9.

The core of this team is led by C Micheal Johnson (2027) and UTL Terrion Nevels (2027), who both paced the lineup a season ago in hits and RBIs and will again be counted on to set the tone offensively. With every starter back, Parker returns a lineup that should be far more comfortable in pressure situations and better equipped to handle the grind of the season. The supporting cast includes OF Nicholas Hawkins (2026) and P Jordan Willis (2027), while a talented group of underclassmen, OF Ryan Elliott (2028), SS Cornellrious Scott (2028), and P DeUndray Thompson (2030), adds depth and upside to the roster as they continue to develop and compete for bigger roles.

Looking ahead, Parker’s identity in 2026 will be built around toughness, discipline, and a next-man-up mentality as this group looks to turn last season’s growing pains into steady progress. The focus will be on competing deep into games, handling adversity, and playing with consistent effort on both sides of the ball as the season unfolds. As head coach Tyrus Moss put it, “The Parker Thundering Herd Baseball 2026 season will be defined by discipline, toughness, and a relentless work ethic as the program raises the standard on and off the field. With a team built on accountability and preparation, this group is focused on turning hard work into consistent execution when it matters most. Expect a hungry, battle-tested Herd ready to compete every inning and make noise all season long.”
