Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2026 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Helena enters the 2026 season looking to build on a 22-15 campaign that resulted in a Sweet 16 appearance in Class 6A. The Huskies showed toughness throughout the spring and proved capable of competing in a challenging Area 7, and now head into a new year with experience on the mound and athleticism across the field as the foundation. With several key seniors returning, Helena expects to lean into its physical style of play while continuing to develop consistency against high-level competition.

The strength of this group starts on the mound with RHP Brayden Dockery (Northeast Mississippi CC, 2026), who returns as one of the leaders of the pitching staff and a proven arm in big spots. RHP Justin Mullenix (2026) provides additional stability and depth on the hill, giving the Huskies multiple experienced options to anchor the rotation. Offensively, OF Davis Kelley (Montevallo, 2026), OF Jonathan Roberto (2026), and OF Hudson Campbell (2026) bring athleticism and run-producing ability to the lineup, forming a veteran core in the outfield that can impact the game in multiple ways. SS/RHP Cooper Yarborough (2028) headlines the underclass group and adds versatility, with the ability to contribute both defensively up the middle and on the mound as his role continues to grow.

Helena’s strengths in 2026 will revolve around its pitching staff, athleticism, and overall physicality. With a veteran group of arms and experienced position players setting the tone, the Huskies have the pieces to compete in one of the more competitive 6A areas. If they can consistently execute on the mound and translate their athleticism into clean defense and timely offense, Helena will once again position itself to make noise when postseason play arrives.
