We continue our spring high school previews and projections with a look at 15 "Picks to Click" as we inch closer to the 2026 baseball season. Highlighted in these stories are players that we believe are in contention for "Player of the Year" or "Pitcher of the Year" and we will give a detailed analysis, including video on each. Without further ado, the next player we would like to highlight is University of Alabama commit Arian Vargas from Archbishop Spalding.

Arian Vargas RHP / Archbishop Spalding High School, MD / 2026

Arguably the most explosive arm in the state, the University of Alabama commit enters the spring in a slightly different situation than the past, as Vargas looks to lead the Archbishop Spalding staff in 2026.

Featuring a low 90s fastball with ride/run through the zone, the heater plays to all quadrants with the ability to miss bats in and out of the zone. The slider/curveball combo has added feel over the last few months, and a couple looks this preseason has our staff highly intrigued for the spin to be a dynamite difference maker this spring. The changeup is above average, per usual, showcasing late dive action at the knees out of a similar tunnel as the fastball, rounding out one of the more special four pitch mixes in the state. If Spalding looks to get back to the mountain top, look for Vargas to be the front-runner of the staff and lead in experience.
