Shimpa is the lone left-hander on our list of top fastballs in the 2027 class. The 2025 Future Gamer from Minnesota features a fastball we’ve seen sit in the 89–91 mph range and touch 92. What separates Shimpa from the rest of the pack is the heavy arm-side run he produces, giving him an advantage even when his velocity isn’t at its best. He’s able to get outs with movement as much as velocity a trait that should play extremely well at Stanford in a couple of years.
Beyond the fastball, Shimpa also features an above-average changeup that has good movement thanks to his arm slot. His slider is another tough offering, showing quality depth and late action. While many breaking balls tend to “pop” out of the hand, Shimpa does a great job staying on top of the pitch, making it look like a fastball out of the hand. He tunnels all three pitches well and forces hitters to stay disciplined in every at-bat.
Shimpa hopped on the mound and ran his fastball up to 88 with heavy ASR.
