2026 Prattville Lions Team Preview

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2026 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Coming off a 12-23 campaign in one of the toughest areas in Class 7A, Prattville was forced to grow up fast in 2025. Despite the record, the Lions return nearly their entire lineup, losing only one starter from last year’s team in Mason Piper, who was both the leading hitter and pitcher. With that experience now under their belts and a core group of contributors back, Prattville enters 2026 believing it is far better equipped to compete in Area 5 and take a step forward this spring.

The backbone of this group starts with a strong senior class. OF Dorsett Jackson (Shelton State CC, 2026) will hit in the middle of the order and brings pop to go with steady defense in the outfield. SS Aiden Urnis (Mississippi Gulf Coast CC, 2026) anchors the infield with a strong arm and will also be a key run producer in the heart of the lineup. C Sean Smith (Itawamba CC, 2026) brings impact potential on both sides of the ball with big pop from both sides of the plate and does a good job handling the pitching staff behind the dish. On the mound, RHP Paxton Genola (2026) gives the Lions a power arm in the back end of games, sitting in the mid-80s, while RHP/1B Chris Hardaway (2026) is a reliable strike-thrower who will factor into the starting rotation. OF/RHP Holt Stovall (2026), a three-year starter, will log important innings and continue to provide experience on both sides of the ball. RHP Andrew Kincaid (2027) returns after starting last season and should once again eat up innings, while UTL Christian Alexander (2027), another three-year starter, gives the Lions versatility all over the field. Prattville will also blend in a promising underclass group, highlighted by LHP/OF AJ Kramer (2029), 3B/RHP Will McKay (2028), OF Aiden Bradley (2028), and OF Tyler Blanchard (2028), along with C Nick Kramer (2027), INF BJ Mangum (2027), and INF Layton Lawrence (2027), who add depth and competition across the roster.

With seven starters returning and a deeper, more battle-tested group, Prattville’s strength lies in its experience and the confidence gained from last season’s growing pains in a brutal area. The Lions expect that continuity to translate into more consistent play on both sides of the ball as they push to contend in 7A, Area 5. “We’re an experienced group returning seven starters, and our underclassmen gained valuable real-game experience last season. With that foundation, we expect to contend and our confidence is high heading into the year,” said head coach JR Myers.
