Team Preview
Coming off a memorable run to the state semifinals, the Hannan Hawks enter 2026 in the midst of a true reset—but one built on a strong foundation. With longtime head coach Chris Garrett stepping away after a successful four-year run, first-year head coach Cass Hargis takes over a program that’s healthy, organized, and ready to turn the page with a new core.
Team Strengths
Hannan’s biggest asset is its balance and athleticism. This lineup is filled with players who can handle the bat, move around defensively, and contribute in multiple roles. While the Hawks may not overwhelm opponents with raw power or elite velocity, they’re built to pressure defenses with aggressive baserunning, situational execution, and a high baseball IQ. Expect a brand of baseball that emphasizes pace, versatility, and toughness.
Team Weaknesses
If there’s a concern, it’s experience. Much of the production from last year’s semifinal team has graduated, leaving a roster heavy on players who haven’t logged meaningful varsity innings. That said, the staff views this more as an opportunity than a flaw. Early-season reps will be critical, and the expectation is steady growth as the calendar flips toward April.
Top Returning Players
-Senior CF Colt Manning
A true athlete who can really run and gets excellent jumps in center field. Manning showed late last season that he can rise to the moment, gaining valuable experience during the postseason push. He brings a plus arm in the outfield and has the barrel skills to be a catalyst at the top of the lineup, with potential innings on the mound as well.
-Junior C Carson Massey
One of the most important pieces on the roster. Massey started behind the plate as a sophomore and did an outstanding job handling a veteran pitching staff. A quality receiver who can catch-and-throw, he’s also taken a step forward offensively and will be counted on in the middle of the order.
Outlook
The 2026 Hawks will look different, but the identity is clear. Senior Chanse Boatman is expected to anchor the rotation, with junior Chris Stone close behind, as Hargis and his staff sort through arms and roles early. Offensively, Hannan plans to play fast and aggressive, leaning on the running game and bunt game to manufacture runs and create chaos.
Players like Manning, senior Brennan Lopez, and juniors Jacob Goubert and Hunter Lay give the Hawks multiple bats with speed and feel, and they’ll be central to creating scoring opportunities.
Early-season growing pains may be part of the process, but buy-in has been strong and improvement has been noticeable in early spring practices. If Hannan continues to stack experience and confidence, expect a team that’s playing its best baseball late—and one that could be dangerous once postseason time rolls around.
