NJ Preseason ID - South: Quick Hits

Last week, the Prep Baseball New Jersey staff hosted the NJ Preseason ID: South at the Mavericks Training Facility in Moorestown, NJ. 44 players participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as gameplay and in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball NJ staff.
Earlier this week, we released the Statistical Analysis from the event, highlighting some of the best statistical metrics from the day as well as a Positional Data Dive and Pitching Data Dive.
Today, we will be looking at the prospects that stood out to our staff within this Quick Hits and Nate's Notables story.
Two-Ways
RHP/SS Matthew Brogley Jr (2028, Audubon) is a 5-foot-8, 174-pound two-way prospect with the innate ability to spin the baseball. Brogley’s fastball topped at 84.4 mph and both of his breaking pitches spin over 2,600 rpm. He throws his curveball 72-74 mph with a spin rate of 2,648 rpm and his slider is 73-76 mph with a spin rate up to 2,750 rpm. At the plate, he flashed a compact swing that produced line drives peaking at an exit velocity of 95.8 mph.
RHP/SS Drew Augusto (2029, Gloucester Catholic) is a rising freshman for one of the state’s most notable teams. He is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound two-way prospect that looks the part on both sides of the ball. Augusto produced a max exit velocity of 92.1 mph and a max distance of 342 feet with a flat bat path that creates natural back-spin. On the mound, he flashed a pitch arsenal of 78-80 mph fastball, a short slider of 68-70 mph, and a 66-67 mph curveball.
Position Players
OF/LHP Cole Anderson (2028, Shawnee) is a multi-sport athlete that packs a punch in his physical, compact 5-foot-8 and 183-pound frame. Anderson displayed his first step and straight line speed with a 3.90 thirty-yard dash. The left-handed hitting outfielder had a batting practice littered with line drives up the middle and to the pull side. He produced the second highest exit velocity of the event at 100.3 mph while showing a repeatable swing with body control and balance. Anderson also displayed his arm strength from the outfield with throws peaking at 83 mph.
1B Jackson Koch (2028, St Augustine Prep) is a left-handed hitter that has a knack for elevating the baseball to the pull side with authority. He has a 5-foot-11, 195-pound frame that produced a max exit velocity of 95 mph and a max distance of 355 feet. Koch loads into his back hip with a hip coil and keeps his weight behind the baseball. He has a deep barrel turn that creates a natural upward attack angle and produces pull side power.
NATE'S NOTABLES

Dillon Haddock OF / 1B / Cherry Hill East, NJ / 2027
Haddock is a multi-sport athlete that boasts a mature, physical frame of 5-foot-11 and 191-pounds. His batting practice was full of constant bullet line drives up the middle utilizing his quick bat speed and direct pat path. He produced a max exit velocity of 98 mph, an average exit velocity of 92.2, and a max distance of 312 feet. Haddock also displayed his arm strength with throws up to 86 mph from the outfield. Keep an eye on this Cherry Hill East product.

Carter Sabathia 3B / RHP / Bergen Catholic, NJ / 2029
Sabathia, a 6-foot-1 and 203-pound 2029 grad, had an impressive all-around performance at the NJ Preseason ID: South. His day started at the plate with a loud round of batting practice producing a 100.2 mph exit velocity and a 91 mph average exit velocity. Sabathia sinks into his back leg while utilizing a leg kick gather and transfers his energy efficiently into his swing. At third base, he flashed quiet footwork and smooth fielding actions while making accurate throws with a low three quarter arm slot. Then he capped off his day with a bullpen where he displayed his two pitch arsenal. His fastball was 80-83 mph with up to 23 inches of induced vertical break and his slider was 69-73 mph with a shorter pitch profile.

Gavin McCrone C / 3B / Ridgewood, NJ / 2027
McCrone was a top performer in multiple categories at the NJ Preseason ID South where he made his Prep Baseball debut. The athletic catcher ran an event high 3.84 thirty-yard dash while boasting a physical 6-foot, 183-pound frame. At the plate, McCrone produced more event highs in exit velocity and hard-hit percentage. His max exit velocity was 103.1 mph, the average exit velocity was 91.5 mph, max distance was 370 feet, and his hard-hit percentage was 90 percent. He swings from a simplified set-up and swings with noticeable body control and balance. Behind the plate, McCrone led the pack with a 1.99-2.03 pop time and an arm strength of 81 mph from the crouch. He made accurate throws down to second base with good carry. A player to watch this high school season.
