The 2026 high school baseball season is right around the corner, and as always, excitement is building across the Bayou State. Programs from every corner of Louisiana have been hard at work this offseason—honing skills, building chemistry, and setting their sights on a return trip to Sulphur for the LHSAA State Championships. As is tradition, the state is once again loaded with talent, from seasoned veterans to rising underclassmen ready to make their mark.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll take an in-depth look at teams from every region as part of our comprehensive season preview series. These previews will lead right up to Opening Day, followed by the release of our Power 25 Rankings and the return of our always-popular Game of the Week feature.

Throughout the spring, Prep Baseball Louisiana will continue to be your one-stop source for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Be sure to check back weekly for our Player and Pitcher of the Week honors, updated Power 25 Rankings, and plenty of additional coverage highlighting the stories, performances, and programs that make Louisiana baseball special.

Team Preview

The South Terrebonne Gators enter the 2026 season looking to build upon the program’s strong foundation under Head Coach Mike Barba. Despite graduating key contributors from last year’s club, the Gators have a history of steady improvement and competitive play, something that was on full display in 2025 when they rebounded from a 3-12 start to finish 15-5 down the stretch. That run included a district championship and a first-round playoff sweep before falling to West Ouachita in the second round.

While the Gators will be young, their greatest strength lies in the program’s consistency and identity. The foundation built over recent years will help guide this new wave of underclassmen as they step into bigger roles. The expectations remain high in Bourg — play tough, physical baseball and compete every pitch.

Youth will be the primary challenge early on. With only three seniors on the roster, South Terrebonne will rely heavily on juniors and freshmen to fill key positions. Developing depth, gaining experience, and adjusting to the varsity game will be focal points during the early part of the schedule.

Top Returning Players

-Junior UTL/RHP Noah Detillier

The junior was one of the Gators’ go-to relievers last season, logging 31 innings, which ranked second on the team. He’ll look to transition into a starting role on the mound in 2026. Offensively, Detillier hit .288 as a sophomore and will be a catalyst in the lineup thanks to his athleticism and speed.

-Junior RHP Caleb LeBlanc

Projected to be one of the top arms a season ago before injury sidelined him. After a strong summer showing, LeBlanc appears poised for a breakout campaign if he can stay healthy.

-Junior RHP Cooper Hebert

Another junior who gained valuable experience last year, logging 30 innings. Consistency will be key for Hebert as he takes on a larger role in 2026.

-Junior OF Maddox Breaux

A returning middle-of-the-order bat who hit .320 with 10 doubles last spring. Breaux will once again be counted on to drive in runs and provide leadership at the plate.

-Senior INF/RHP Kole Lyons

The senior emerged as a reliable lineup option midway through last season and will be looked upon to provide stability and leadership for a young roster.

Underclassmen to Watch

-Freshman UTL/RHP Evan Porche

Plays with confidence and poise well beyond his years. Porche’s versatility will allow him to impact the team in multiple ways — both in the field and on the mound. Expect him to earn meaningful innings early.

-Freshman INF Graysin Mallard

The younger brother of 2022 State Champion and current Nicholls State player Logan Mallard, Graysin has grown up around the program. With his tall frame and projectable tools, he has a chance to develop into a high-level player. He’ll need to adjust to varsity speed but should get opportunities to contribute right away.

Outlook

The Gators return just 27% of their at-bats and 32% of their innings pitched from 2025, making experience a work in progress. Still, this is a program that knows how to compete and develop talent. After flipping the script last season with a late surge and district title, Coach Barba and his staff will look to instill that same mindset again — one built on toughness, daily improvement, and controlling what can be controlled.

If the young core can mature quickly and buy into the program’s approach, South Terrebonne has a chance to once again exceed expectations and make a postseason run in 2026.
