January 22, 2026
‘Prospect Pulse’ is a series that provides insight into Canada's amateur baseball scene, with vital intel on prospects in each of our big three provinces... Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia. Each 'Prospect Pulse' article will cover different and timely topics from different classes as we look to bring you the best coverage within Canada on the amateur prospect within it.
This week’s topic: This week, Western Canada's Lead Scout, Jaxson Smith-Peterson, covers four catchers within British Columbia who excel behind the plate.

PROSPECT PULSE (BC): CATCH AND THROW
|
Connor Simpson C / Lambrick Park, BC / 2026Simpson has long been regarded as one of the top defenders in this 2026 class and he continued to prove that during the 2025 season. The Mineral Area Commit displays advanced catch and throw skills that we saw on display last June when he threw out two runners with poptimes of 1.90 and 1.92. In addition to his strong defense, the bat has taken major strides forward, evidenced by an eye opening homerun at the Rogers Centre this fall. Look for Simpson to impact the game consistently as the everyday backstop for the Eagles in 2026.

Ryder Silverton C / SS / Yale Secondary School, BC / 2026Silverton quietly put together one of the strongest defensive seasons in the Province last year. The Cardinals catcher threw out 54% of runners while only allowing 4 passed balls in 250 defensive innings as a junior. During our in-event look this past fall, Silverton’s pop times ranged from 1.90-2.02 with accurate throws and velocities reaching 76 mph. Although the defense is presently the carrying tool, Silverton is also a switch hitter who got on base at a .374 clip during 2025. Expect the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M commit to be a key piece in the Cardinals success in 2026.

Ryder Evans C / Seycove Secondary School, BC / 2026Evans grabbed our staff’s attention in a handful of early season games leading into the Best of the West tournament. The left-handed hitting catcher was consistently on the barrel while showing quality bat-to-ball skills with minimal chase. The catch and throw skills were on display in Kamloops with this caught stealing to end the inning in a close game. A quality JUCO pickup, keep an eye on this unsigned senior heading into the 2026 season.

Martin Galloway C / RHP / Dover Bay Secondary School, BC / 2027Galloway showed well at a pair of events in 2025 with pop times ranging from 1.96-2.17 and throws reaching 76 mph. The Pirates product also impressed our staff during his time as a member of the 16U BC Selects with his blocking skills and ability to control the running game. The uncommitted Junior out of the Mid-Island is a player our staff is eager to see in-game during the 2026 season.
