The Oklahoma high school baseball season kicks off on Feb. 23 for classes A and B and Mar. 1 for classes 2A-6A, opening day for regular season action under OSSAA regulations. Leading up to opening day, we’ll be publishing our team previews ahead of the 2025 spring season, touching on programs spanning all state classifications, counting down to the official Prep Baseball Oklahoma Preseason Power 25 Rankings.

Perennially, we’ve submitted a preseason questionnaire to high school head coaches across the entire state. Their responses have been flooding in and we’re using the detailed insight they’ve provided in our team-by-team preseason analysis.

Top Returners:

• Tyler Sparks, (2027), P/UTIL, 5’ 8”, 180lb, S/R
  • absolute competitor on the mound and plays bigger than his frame.
    
    
• Brysen Donnell, (2026), CF, 5’ 9” 165 lb, L/R (Carl Albert State JC)
  • Led all offensive categories in 2025. Table setter with pop. Hits best against the best arms we see.
    
    
• Ryan Angell, (2027) IF, 6’ 1” 175lbs
  • Electric defender and learning to clean up approach offensively. Great baserunner, hoping to help set the table at the top of the order.

Top Newcomers:

• Brayden Andrews, (2028) SS, 6’ 1” 175lbs, S/R
  • Very gifted infielder with plus arm strength. Will have adjustments to varsity pitching but he has potential to hit and hit for power.
    
    
• Jaycob Goodman , (2029), LHP  6’ 185lbs, L/L:
  • Big time arm with feel for offspeed. Will compete for district innings immediately.

Coach’s Insight: “We feel great about the depth of our team and the experience we have coming back. We return every “start” on the mound from 2025. Led by strong Seniors and a very talented Junior class we feel good about their ability to withstand the rigors of 6A baseball. Offensively we have some work to do, learning to hit with a consistent approach and continue to focus on making quality outs and winning in the margins with hustle and attention to detail.” – Steven Irvine, head coach

Outlook: Coach Irvine’s Sapulpa squad comes in with high expectations in 2026 after playing their best baseball down the stretch last spring. The Chieftains have experience in their lineup with senior Brysen Donnell setting the table at the top - on the shortlist of top leadoff men in the state a year ago. On the mound, they return valuable innings and also have exciting young arms that have an opportunity to make an impact right away. Complimenting their staff, they have advanced defenders at some key spots around the diamond Regardless of the "Jimmys and Joes" that make up a Coach Irvine coached team, they will always compete with toughness at a high level that gives them an opportunity to beat anyone in the state.
