FLOWOOD, MS — The Central Mississippi Preseason ID was held on Monday, January 19th at GRIT Training in Flowood, MS that featured top talent from the 2026-2030 classes. Players went through a pro-style workout with TrackMan and VALD Performance tech, while pitchers threw in a bullpen setting and were able to get data and metrics on our TrackMan unit.

Some prospects built on past showings, while others made strong first impressions.

QUICK HITS

Xavier Thompson OF / 3B / West Lauderdale, MS / 2027

Stands out with a lean, athletic 6-foot-1, 180-pound frame and clear next-level tools. Left-handed hitter with present pop, showing consistent jump off the bat and a middle-to-pull side approach. Exit velocities have climbed to 101 mph, underscoring the impact potential. Above-average runner with a 6.79 60, translating to real value on the bases and in the outfield. Pairs that speed with a strong 88 mph arm from the outfield. High-upside, well-rounded profile—this is a must-see prospect who won’t be available long.

Reid Hager 2B / C / St. Joseph Catholic, MS / 2026

Brings a strong, durable 6-foot-1, 200-pound frame with the versatility to impact a roster at multiple positions, primarily at second base and catcher. At the plate, he shows the ability to drive the baseball on a line to all fields, with exit velocities reaching 98 mph. Defensively, he offers reliable actions and solid footwork, showing an 80 mph arm from the infield with a steady glove. Behind the plate, he continues to provide value with a 2.03 pop time and a 74 mph arm. Still Uncommitted, Hager offers a dependable, multi-positional player who profiles as a solid option to carry on a roster at the next level.

John Douglas Westfall OF / RHP / Madison Central, MS / 2029

Is a young prospect to follow with a projectable 5-foot-9, 150-pound frame and a well-rounded skill set. An outfielder by trade, he shows a fairly polished swing for his age, consistently working the middle of the diamond with a line-drive approach. Exit velocities have reached 93 mph, indicating emerging strength and offensive upside. Defensively, he pairs solid actions with an 87 mph arm from the outfield. He also adds value on the mound, where he can provide innings and has been up to 81 mph with the fastball, showing clear upside as he continues to develop physically and refine his game.

Jackson Carlisle SS / OF / Pisgah, MS / 2028

Is a solid, multi-positional prospect with a lean, athletic 5-foot-11, 170-pound build and the versatility to impact the game in multiple roles. A left-handed hitter with quick hands, he shows a clean line-drive swing path and has posted exit velocities up to 91 mph. He moves well for his size, running a 6.86 in the 60, and pairs that athleticism with a solid arm, 82 mph across the infield and up to 86 mph from the outfield. A well-rounded profile with present tools and upside, Carlisle stands out as another must-see performer from this event.

Andrew Butler OF / RHP / Northwest Rankin, MS / 2027

Features a muscular, athletic 6-foot, 190-pound build and profiles as a physical outfield prospect with upside. He moves fairly well for his size, posting a 7.0 in the 60, and shows occasional loft from the right side at the plate. Exit velocities have reached 98 mph, hinting at developing strength and the potential to emerge as a legitimate power threat as he continues to refine his approach. Defensively, he brings a solid arm, throwing up to 84 mph from the outfield. A player we look forward to seeing more of in game action as his tools continue to translate between the lines.

Sam Brown 1B / OF / Jackson Prep, MS / 2028

Brings a durable 5-foot-11, 205-pound build and stands out for his present strength at the plate for his age. He showed real juice offensively, matching the event high with a 101 mph exit velocity, and hits with aggression into contact while working a middle-of-the-field to pull-side approach. Defensively, he shows a developing skill set, complemented by a solid, accurate arm. As he continues to mature physically and refine his overall game, the upcoming calendar year could play a significant role in his continued development and long-term upside.

Jackson Hoggatt 3B / 1B / Germantown, MS / 2029

Is a young arm with clear upside on the mound. He owns a lean, lanky 6-foot-1, 180-pound frame and is already showing encouraging signs as just a freshman. The fastball is approaching 80 mph, with more velocity likely to come as he continues to mature physically. He shows clean movement patterns and athletic actions that project well moving forward. His secondary arsenal is coming along, with present feel for both a changeup and a breaking ball. A developmental arm to closely follow, with plenty of reason to look forward to seeing how he progresses down the road.
