West Houston Preseason ID: Infielder Analysis

On Saturday, January 3rd, the PB Texas staff traveled to Cotton Ranch Sports Complex in Katy, TX, to host the West Houston Preseason ID, an open event for all high school classes.
More than 20 players made their way to Cotton Ranch this past weekend and participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Texas staff.

Today, we take a look at the scouting reports on every infielder in attendance from the event.
ALL INFIELD PROSPECTS (LISTED ALPHABETICALLY)
Kaysen Click, Orangefield (TX), 2029
Positional Profile: RHP/SS RHH/INF Solid frame/build to add strength in future. Shows some now strength for age group. Projectable hit/power combo bat in future. Bat speed present with some strength. Look for plus running ability in next few years. Good mover. Feet work defensively. When playing through ball, shows well on dirt. RHP Arm speed present with more in the tank. Repeatable delivery with some body awareness present. FB has life and some movement. Chance to have dominant SL with continued development. Watch progress.
Body: 5-10, 171.5 pounds. Solid build/frame to add strength in future. Width to shoulders and back. Projectable frame.
Hit: RHH. Open stance in setup. Alternates between leg lift and toe tap load. Shifts weight into 50/50 launch. Can create more hip hinge in back hip for added plate coverage and power. Flat path with hands and bat. Can improve with direction of swing. Back elbow should lead back hand toward the zone. Similar to a throw. Will create better spin and carry. 67.3 mph bat speed with 14g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 91 mph max exit velocity (84.7 avg.); 340-foot max batted distance. Projects for nice hit/power combo in future with adjustments.
Arm: RH. INF - 80 mph. Compact path with decent hand speed. Projects solid arm with carry.
Defense: Feet and hands work. Can play through the ball better with rhythm and timing in feet. Accelerate through catch.
Athletic Testing: 7.28 runner in the 60-yard dash; Decent runner now. Projects to be plus runner in future with adjustments. Gets upright early. Maintain forward lean in upper half for improved speed.

Nicolas Collazo, Tompkins (TX), 2028
Positional Profile: SS/2B RHH/INF Solid frame/build to add strength in future. Some lower half strength present. Good stroke from the right side. Has some doubles pop. Hands are quick and has ability to stay inside the baseball. Projects to good hit/power combo. Solid defender. Feet work quick with good angles. Glove actions are present. Has some feel. Mechanically sound on all sides of ball. Will continue to improve with maturity. Watch progress.
Body: 5-10, 176.8 pounds. Solid build/frame to add strength in future. Some width to back. Slightly sloping shoulders. Some strength to lower.
Hit: RHH. More upright setup working into an athletic launch position. Knee tuck load with hands working in rhythm to lower. Works inside the ball well with good path from elbows and hands. Stays through ball with solid weight shift. Can release bat into fingers while striking baseball in order to increase EV and barrel accuracy. Solid stroke. 64 mph bat speed with 9g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 93 mph max exit velocity (85 avg.); 360-foot max batted distance. Solid hit/power combo. Will continue to improve both with added strength and adjustments.
Arm: RH. INF - 80 mph. Nice short stroke with a H3/4 slot. Some hand speed present.
Defense: Feet and hands work. Solid actions. Angles to ball are generally sound. Good rhythm and timing.

Casen Cooley, Freeman El (TX), 2028
Positional Profile: 1B/RHP LHH/1B Projects well physically. Live lefty stick with some juice. Has the ability to hit balls with real pace. Pull side pop now, but will have ability to drive all fields in near future. Has some feel for barrel. Rangy defender at 1B with good actions. Plenty of arm. LHP Movement and change of speed over raw arm strength. Some hand speed present. Solid ASR to FB and CH. Developing shape to breaking ball. Repeatable delivery with command of three pitches.
Body: 6-5, 191.5 pounds. Tall/wiry frame to add strength in future. Some strength present. Avg width to shoulders and back. Projects well physically.
Hit: LHH. Balanced and more upright setup. Early load/stride with slight hip glide into athletic launch. Top hand is overrotated on bat. Get bat more in pads of top hand for better path and more whip. Decent path with quick hands and barrel speed. Can improve bath with hand adjustments. 72.3 mph bat speed with 12g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 104 mph max exit velocity (91.2 avg.); 332-foot max batted distance. Solid hit/power combo now. Will improve both aspects with small adjustments.
Arm: LH. INF - 80 mph. Full path with some hand speed present. Allow shoulder to continue to rotate forward a little longer before clearing front side.
Defense: Quick feet and sure hands. Rangy fielder. Actions present. Can accelerate through ball a little more. Will help rhythm and timing for catch and throw.
Athletic Testing: 7.54 runner in the 60-yard dash; 25.00-inch max vertical jump. Decent start. Can utilize more hips in strides over legs only. Upright runner. Maintain lean in upper half. Projects to avg/better than avg runner with adjustments.

David Garcia, Katy (TX), 2029
Positional Profile: 2B/C RHH/INF Nice frame/build to add needed strength in future. Solid RHH with some barrel accuracy. Hit over power now but projects to hit/power combo in future. Quickness over raw arm strength defensively. Shows avg lateral range with consistent glove. Developing rhythm and timing. Watch progress.
Body: 5-6, 154 pounds. Nice frame to add strength in future. Avg width to shoulders and back.
Hit: RHH. Slightly open stance in setup. Uses leg lift style load. Gets to solid launch position in legs. Hands start well but need to stay in rhythm. Once hands are started, keep them in motion. Lower half continues solid weight shift. Hands and elbows work toward the zone in sequence. Can improve path by allowing back elbow to clear mid section and continue past belly button. 64.5 mph bat speed with 17g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 94 mph max exit velocity (86.5 avg.); 293-foot max batted distance. Hit over power now. Projects to solid hit/power combo in future.
Arm: RH. INF - 73 mph. Nice short path with H3/4 slot. Projects solid arm strength with consistent long toss program.
Defense: Feet and hands work well together. Some actions present. Stops feet for catch. Accelerate through the catch for improved hops and momentum on throw.
Athletic Testing: 7.84 runner in the 60-yard dash; 19.50-inch max vertical jump. Solid runner when gets up to speed. Nice stride length and form on back half of 60. Start can improve. Less upper half in start. Get to natural stride length sooner.

Thomas Grubert, Tompkins (TX), 2028
Positional Profile: C/3B RHH/INF/C Projects well physically. Shows some lower half strength. Very balanced swing with some gap to gap pop. Handles balls over big part of plate well. Projects higher hit/power tools with small adjustments. Feet work well defensively. Actions present in the INF with some hand speed. Decent mover with quick release. Receives well behind the plate. Shows soft hands and lets ball travel. Adjustments to setup provide more mobility. Solid developing player.
Body: 5-8, 166 pounds. Solid frame/build to add strength in future. Avg width to back and shoulders. Shows some lower strength now.
Hit: RHH. Slightly open stance with a wider base.Works into a a slightly closed launch position. Good position with hands at front foot strike. Can create more back hip hinge for increased power and better bat path direction. 62.9 mph bat speed with 8g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 94 mph max exit velocity (88.2 avg.); 280-foot max batted distance. Solid hit/power combo. Will continue to improve both with added strength and adjustments.
Arm: RH. C - 72 mph. INF - 74 mph. Nice short stroke with a H3/4 slot. Some hand speed present.
Defense: 2.04-2.21 pop time range; Quick feet and solid exchange behind the plate. Glove actions present. When receiving on one knee, still have to maintain balance and athleticism. Keep weight more centered. Feet work in the INF. Quick release. Cut angles to ball down and accelerate through catch.
Athletic Testing: 7.39 runner in the 60-yard dash; 23.00-inch max vertical jump. Decent start. Can maintain direction in shoulders and elbows throughout start. Good stride length. Maintain upper half lean for improved speed.

Anthony Guerrero, Paetow (TX), 2029
Positional Profile: RHP/3B RHH/INF Solid frame/build to add strength in future. Run time will firm. Hit over power offensively. Developing bat path and speed. Steady defender on the dirt. Works best laterally with soft hands. RHP: Repeatable delivery with strike command. Feel for both FB and SL. Arm strength will build with maturity. Developing shape on SL. Watch progress.
Body: 5-7, 162.5 pounds. Width to back and shoulders. Some lower strength present. Projects added strength.
Hit: RHH. Balanced setup with a small leg lift and go. Creates rhythm in hands and get into solid launch. Back hip hinges but leaks a little on stride. Bat works flat and planes through zone well. Weight shifts into front side. Back elbow can clear back hip and body to maintain direction in bat path. 59.5 mph bat speed with 5g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 89 mph max exit velocity (74.6 avg.); 292-foot max batted distance. Hit over power now. Projects to solid hit/power combo in future.
Arm: RH. INF - 72 mph. Full path with H3/4 slot. Avg hand speed. Can improve with consistent long toss program.
Defense: Feet and glove actions work best on balls a little more left or right. Create better angles on balls in front by getting to one side of the ball and accelerating feet through catch.
Athletic Testing: 8.05 runner in the 60-yard dash; 16.30-inch max vertical jump. Solid start to run. Hard runner. Keep upper half more relaxed and loose throughout run. Can utilize more hips in stride.

Addison Johnson, Katy (TX), 2029
Positional Profile: 1B/LHP RHH/1B/OF Solid built frame to continue to develop strength. Hit over power now. Will improve hit ability and pop with adjustments and maturity. Feet and hands are solid defensively. Developing rhythm and timing. Avg arm strength now with more in the tank. LHP Strike thrower with both pitches. Repeatable delivery. Developing movement and shapes. Ability to throw with more velo in future. Watch development.

Feet and glove work well. Rangy style defender. Shows a nice swing offensively with a short stroke and solid balance. Hit over power now. Projects to solid G2G style hitter. Very projectable.

Solid catch and throw behind the plate. Works best from on both feet now. Quick release with short path. Quick feet in the INF with developing rhythm and timing. Watch development.
Body: 6-0, 182.5 pounds. Solid build/frame to add strength in future. Projects well physically.
Hit: RHH. Slightly open setup working into slightly closed launch. Solid launch position with hands and weight shift. Solid path when front side gets out of way. Shows bat speed. Shows decent actions on the dirt. Feet work with solid glove actions. Avg arm speed now but will continue to improve with adjustments. Watch progress.
Body: 6-2, 187 pounds. Good build/frame to add strength in future. Shows some present strength. Width to back and shoulders.
Hit: RHH. Balanced setup with a simple load. Hands work into solid launch. Legs shift pretty well. Can shift a little more weight to center on stride. Starts into zone well with elbows and hands. Barrel planes well. Can clear back elbow past body for better path. Hit into a firm/strong front side. 65.6 mph bat speed with 8g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 95 mph max exit velocity (83 avg.); 305-foot max batted distance. G2G style hitter. Can create more hit ability with adjustments.
