2026 OUTLOOK

+ Munford enters the 2026 season with championship expectations after a deep postseason run in 2025 that ended with a 3A State Runner-Up finish. Now competing in Class 4A, head coach Scotty Yount returns a battle-tested core that logged meaningful innings and at-bats during last spring’s title push. With a roster built around versatile two-way athletes and a strong underclass foundation, the Cougars are positioned to carry momentum forward as they navigate a tougher classification and District 15 slate.

The lineup brings back a wealth of returning starters, many of whom impact the game in multiple phases. Stephen Kemp (2026) headlines the group as a left-handed arm with experience in high-leverage situations, while also providing athletic value when not on the mound. Houston Yount (2027) sets the tone defensively in center field, pairing speed and instincts with left-handed pitching ability that adds another look to the staff. Hudson Wright (2027) anchors the infield at shortstop and brings a steady presence both defensively and on the mound, while Drew McCann (2027) offers physicality at third base with run-producing upside and two-way reliability.

Behind the plate, Braden Hawkins (2027) provides stability and leadership, handling the pitching staff while continuing to develop offensively. Jaxzen Scheidt (2027) is a true utility piece who gives Munford flexibility across the diamond and adds another dependable arm. Reed Campbell (2027) and Drew Greenland (2027) bring athletic depth to the outfield and infield mix, giving the Cougars multiple lineup configurations depending on matchups. Curly Lowry (2028) rounds out the returning group as a corner bat with power potential and pitching upside that continues to develop.

On the mound, Munford returns a deep and versatile pitching staff built to withstand a long postseason run. Kemp, McCann, and Yount headline the rotation, each capable of handling starts or stepping into leverage roles. Scheidt provides additional innings and matchup flexibility, while John Michael Westerman (2028) emerges as a key underclass arm with left-handed upside and increasing responsibility heading into the spring.

The next wave of Cougars talent is already pushing into varsity roles. Westerman leads a strong 2028 class that includes Jase Johnson, Briley Stutts, Jacob Jackson, and Brody Cope, all of whom bring athleticism and positional versatility. The 2029 group, highlighted by Kaden Bomar and Lee Ligon, adds long-term depth and continues to strengthen the program’s pipeline.

With a roster loaded with returning starters, two-way contributors, and proven postseason experience, Munford enters 2026 as one of the more complete clubs in the region. If the Cougars continue to get consistent production from their core group and the pitching staff holds form against Class 4A competition, Munford has the pieces in place to remain a championship contender and make another deep run in the state tournament.
