Preseason ProCase Roster Preview

By: Dane Poe
Area Scout, Content

One of Illinois' premier events returns next week as our staff heads to Rhino Sports Academy in Shorewood for our annual Preseason ProCase. Last year, over 15 scouts made their way to the Chicagoland area as some of the top talent in Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin participated in our high-level event. The 2026 ProCase has 30 players from the Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Wisconsin ranks signed up to participate. Today, let's take a look at all 30 players who will make the trip to Shorewood on January 27th.

2026 Roster

Jimmy Angle OF / Kettle Moraine, WI / 2026

Eastern Illinois Commit

From 7/31/25: “Has been one of the top hitters in the state across the summer circuit and continued to hit throughout the gameplay portion of the event. Medium leg lift load, fluid motions in the swing, backspin line drive/fly ball tendencies. Posted a max EV of 98 mph and a max OF velocity of 84 mph during the workout. Proceeded to hit a home run over the left field fence in game. Premium combination of size, strength, bat speed, and in-game production. Angle has the ability to be an impact run-manufacturer at the next level right away.”

Vincent Bitter RHP / 1B / Brookfield Central, WI / 2026

Illinois State Commit

From 2/26/25: “+ RHP Vince Bitter (Brookfield Central, 2026; Illinois State) was our very first pitcher of the day and he really set the tone for a talent-packed event. Bitter sat 88-89 mph (90.3 max) on a quality fastball that he attacked the zone with. He has feel for the zone with his secondaries as well, like his slider, 76-78 mph, that sweeps at nearly 10 inches on average (1.2-inch IVB avg.). The changeup might even be his best secondary, at 78-79 mph he gets it to move arm-side at 12.3 inches (-3.2-inch IVB avg.). From a simple, low-effort delivery inside a physical 6-foot-2, 210-pound stature, Bitter exhibits starter traits at the next level.”

Anthony Chavez 1B / OF / Mount Carmel, IL / 2026

Illinois Commit

From 7/22/25: “2025 Senior Future Games: 1B Anthony Chavez (Mount Carmel, 2026) came into this week as one of the top uncommitted left-handed bats in the state and has done nothing but elevate that status. He took one of the loudest rounds of the day with a 103.8 mph peak EV, working on the barrel routinely with five balls hammered over 102 mph. His BLAST metrics were off the charts, averaging 23.7 mph for his hand-speed and 81.3 mph for his bat-speed, also averaging 27.5 G for his rotational acceleration. The hit tool is very evident, but he also features a smooth glove at first base with feel for the position and natural actions. A 6.88 runner in the 60 to pair, Chavez will be a name to circle and follow throughout the rest of the week.”

Frank Costabile OF / RHP / Stevenson, IL / 2026

Illinois-Chicago Commit

From 8/05/25: “RHP/OF Frank Costabile (Stevenson, 2026) is one of the toolsiest players in the entire state. He creates loud contact from his flat and twitchy right-handed swing, peaking at 101 mph in the workout with a 96 mph average. High-level BLAST metrics with an average of 74 mph for his bat-speed and 24 mph for his hand-speed. Plus arm from the outfield, topping at 99 mph. Recorded a 6.77 in the 60, explosive first step and powerful runner. On the mound, his fastball reached 91 mph and carried life through the zone. His most impressive offering, however, was a sharp 79–81 mph slider that spun up to 2,985 RPM and generated consistent swing-and-miss results throughout his outing.”

Caleb Cox RHP / 1B / Springfield Lutheran, IL / 2026

Northern Illinois Commit

From 2/19/25: “One of the biggest and most impressive takeaways from this event is RHP Caleb Cox (Lutheran HS, 2026). The right-hander displayed a lengthy 6-foot-3, 180-pound frame with a ton of projectability. On the mound, he topped 91 mph while averaging 89 mph. He complimented his firm fastball with a slider that shows heavy horizontal movement and a fading changeup that he has a feel for. He utilizes his long levers down the mound, showing looseness and athleticism throughout. Cox is definitely a name to watch this year, and we only expect his stock to rise moving forward.”

Jory Crocker SS / RHP / Willowbrook, IL / 2026

Arizona Commit

From 3/06/25: “INF Jory Crocker (Willowbrook, 2026; Arizona commit) has one of the higher ceilings in the state, and he has made some notable strides since our last look in the summer. Also an extremely high-level arm, Crocker only worked out as a position player over the weekend and was still highly impressive. The right-handed hitter has a relaxed and easy swing that stays balanced with the ability to lift up the middle of the field with ease, reaching up to 101 mph for his peak EV while averaging 90 mph - also launching his furthest ball 368’. He showed well on the infield with soft hands and natural actions, utilizing his levers well and showing easy range. His arm is plenty strong, topping out at 89 mph across. 6.83 runner in the 60.”

Ryan Duncheon Jr. C / RHP / East Peoria, IL / 2026

Illinois State Commit

From 8/05/25: “RHP Ryan Duncheon Jr (East Peoria, 2026) is an Illinois State commit who capped off a strong summer season with an excellent showing on the mound Wednesday night. Dunecheon Jr tossed two innings, striking out three and allowing only two hits, working with tons of confidence. Showing a solidified three-pitch mix, the fastball was up to 91mph, sitting upper-80s, playing clean out of the hand with 21.7 inches of IVB. The slider was upper 70s with a sharp gyro profile, 2400 RPMs. The change-up was upper-70s, killing spin and dropping off from the fastball with arm-side run. Working out of a staggered setup, driving down the mound with intent and a quick, whippy short arm action from a ¾ slot. Dunecheon Jr worked with high intent through his outing, collecting whiffs with the fastball, showing no fear on the mound.”

James Feigleson SS / 3B / St. Charles East, IL / 2026

Illinois-Chicago Commit

From 7/22/25: “2025 Senior Future Games: INF James Feigleson (St. Charles East, 2026) was a name that was on the rise throughout the spring and summer circuits, and continued to look the part of a high-follow uncommitted prospect on Tuesday. Standing in an athletic and lead 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame, Feigleson started his workout running a 6.76 60 time. He showed a loose and fluid right-handed swing during his round of batting practice, staying on the barrel consistently while posting a max exit velocity of 98.1 mph (93.9 mph avg.), and sending his furthest hit ball 371 feet. Defensively, he displayed confident hands and a quality arm across the diamond (T88 mph).”

Samuel Finn LHP / Plainfield North, IL / 2026

Kentucky Commit

From 7/22/25: Currently ranked No. 58 in Illinois' 2026 class. Presenting an imposing 6-foot-3, 200-pound frame with strength present throughout, Finn was another winner on the mound for Team Heartland. The left-hander utilized a high-spin two-pitch mix with consistent feel for the zone. His fastball played firm at 88.5-90.9 mph (T 91.4 mph), with a 2,494 rpm max spin rate and a 2,363 rpm average spin rate. He also showed a sharp 11/5 curveball at 75-78 mph with a 2,997 rpm max spin rate and a 2,799 rpm average. Finn didn’t allow a single hit or run through his two innings of work, striking out two with two walks allowed.

Max Heineman C / OF / Normal Community, IL / 2026

Illinois-Chicago Commit

From 6/07/25: “Illinois-Chicago commit, currently ranked No. 27 in the state’s 2026 class. 5-foot-9, 187-pound frame, strength throughout. Started behind the plate and batted third. Went 3-for-4 with a home run, five RBI and one run scored on the day. Confident hitter at the plate with zone awareness, creates a tough out for opposing pitchers, minimal swing-and-miss. Multiple singles on the day and a two-run homer in the game, delivered in multiple clutch situations in a 4A Sectional Final. On Thursday, barreled a hard-hit ball to right field for a lineout. Continues to impress behind the plate, quality receiver, blocks it up and works hard moving side-to-side. Arm continues to get stronger, ball plays on a line on throws to second, recorded a 1.81 and 1.93 pop time between innings. Another name that continues to show well each time our staff gets a look.”

Henry Humes RHP / Homewood Flossmoor, IL / 2026

Northwestern Commit

From 8/05/25: “RHP Henry Humes (Homewood, 2026) is set to rise in our rankings following a dominant appearance on the mound Wednesday night, Humes put together an eye-opening two-inning performance, striking out three and not allowing a single hit or walk. The right-hander worked with a three-pitch mix, the fastball sitting 88-90 mph, playing well out of the slot with 18.1 inches of horizontal movement. The slider was upper 70s, a gyro profile with slight sweep, 2200 RPMs. The changeup was mid-70s, killing spin, with a drop off getting -4.7 inches of IVB. The lanky, 6-foot-6, 185-pound frame with tons of room to fill out, worked out of a staggered setup, with the arm working long and loose from a lower ¾ slot. Humes, through his outing, showed complete dominance, showing a clear feel for his three-pitch mix, not afraid to go to his slider or changeup for out pitches.”

Joey Ireland SS / 2B / Mount Carmel, IL / 2026

Illinois Commit

From 7/17/24: “Illinois commit. An athletic, 6-foot, 164-pound frame, Ireland could not be stopped with the bat through his first two games this weekend. The right-handed hitter went 5-for-6 with two singles, a double, and two triples. Ireland showed rhythm and maturity in the box with quick hands that stay compact and through the ball. He keeps the barrel through the zone, able to drive the ball to all parts of the field. The righty also showed his ability to run the bases, swiping a handful of bags, beating throws with ease. At shortstop, he is a rangy defender with soft and quick hands. He has a good mental clock, knowing the time he has and not rushing any part of his movements. A handful of plays were made with ease and showed a strong arm that works with different angles.”

Dylan Kassab C / Hinsdale Central, IL / 2026

Indiana Commit

From 6/03/25: “C Dylan Kassab (Hinsdale Central, 2026; Indiana) had one of the loudest rounds of BP during the event. The physical catcher clocks in with a 5-foot-10, 205-pound frame. The right-handed hitter’s barrel creates leverage through the zone while swinging with intent. The Indiana commit connected on three home runs while coming in with an average exit velocity of 95.7 mph (max EV of 105 mph) while having a 92% hard hit percentage. Behind the plate, Kassab posted a pop time of 1.78-2.00. The catcher also showed off some advanced speed behind the plate as he posted a 7.15 60 time.”

Ian Kawczynski SS / 2B / Catholic Memorial, WI / 2026

Wisconsin-Milwaukee Commit

From 2/26/25: “+ One of the biggest winners of the day was UW-Milwaukee Panthers commit INF Ian Kawczynski (Catholic Memorial, 2026; UW-Milwaukee). The middle infielder looked as if he added considerable strength to his lower half and it resulted in one of the event best 60 yard dash times (6.73 seconds) and hard consistent contact throughout his round of batting practice. The right-hander’s quick and twitchy hands through the baseball resulted in rockets to all fields from an aggressive yet controlled swing. He maxed out his exit velocity at 93 mph and had an average exit velocity of 90 mph. On defense, Kawczynski continues to show burst and athleticism in the infield to go along with his soft hands and has enough arm strength to stick on the left side and/or play multiple positions around the field. Kawczynski proved why he is a name to know in the state after his performance.”

Trey Kerkhoff 3B / 1B / Burlington, WI / 2026

Purdue Commit

From 2/26/25: “+ INF Trey Kerkhoff (Burlington, 2026) made a statement with his performance on Sunday. He grew an inch and put on a solid twelve pounds of muscle mass as he came in and measured 6-foot-1, 194 pounds. He started off his day by running the 4th best 60 yard dash of the day at 6.65 seconds. With the bat, Kerkoff was hitting rockets with a short and handsy path and registered an impressive 99 mph max exit velocity which was the 5th best mark on the day. His 94 mph average exit velocity was second best mark of the day and proved how frequently Kerkhoff was on the barrel throughout the round. It was such a clean and consistently looking swing using leverage from back to front in such a controlled way, it’s no wonder why he is one of the top bats in the state. With the glove, the middle infielder showed soft hands with a rhythmic funnel and will be able to stick at short. Kerkoff really took a step forward in this look and UIC is getting an ultra talented player with more ceiling left to be tapped into.”

Addison Latko C / OF / DePaul College Prep, IL / 2026

Illinois Commit

From 3/07/25: “C Addison Latko (DePaul College Prep, 2026; Illinois commit) has long had a strong right-handed swing, and he showed much of the same over the weekend with a peak EV of 99 mph - averaging 91 mph with a peak distance of 368’. He displayed strong hands throughout his round, creating bat-speed with intent to lift up the middle of the field and pull-side, utilizing controlled aggression throughout. He has trimmed some time off his 60, turning in a 7.03 - and he also improved his pop-time with a 1.89 (T80 mph).”

Caleb Liggon SS / OF / Vel Phillips Memorial, WI / 2026

Bradley Commit

From 7/31/25: “Senior Future Games 2025: Currently ranked No. 15 in Wisconsin’s 2026 class. Exhibiting an agile, long-levered 6-foot-4, 186-pound frame with present athleticism, Liggon was another major winner in the workout. The right-hander ran a 6.42 sec 60-yard dash with one of the highest max run speeds of the day at 22.4 mph. He continued his strong performance into BP, consistently staying on the barrel throughout his round. Liggon had six balls barreled over 96 mph, a 99.1 mph max exit velocity, a 94.8 mph average exit velocity, a 91% hard hit percentage, and a 366-foot max distance. Liggon also showed clean actions in the fielding workout, utilizing a steady glove with a strong arm across the diamond at 86 mph. He continued his strong performance into gameplay, going 2-for-3 at the plate in his last game. He finished with two doubles, two runs scored, and a stolen base.”

Gavin Michaels SS / 2B / Normal Community, IL / 2026

Cincinnati Commit

From 6/07/25: “Cincinnati commit, currently ranked No. 11 in Illinois’ junior class. 5-foot-11, 167-pound frame, wiry, long levers with plenty more room for strength to come. Batted leadoff and played second base. Finished the week 3-for-7 with a two runs scored. Right-handed hitter at the plate, showed a simple and direct swing, ball jumped off the barrel. Athlete, translates to the basepaths, recorded a 4.18 on a turn. Confident glove up the middle, easy range, clean actions and an accurate arm. High-level prospect that seemingly has plenty of untapped potential still to come. To add, on Monday June 9th, barreled a ball off the centerfield wall for a triple.”

Nolan Ramoley OF / Brother Rice, IL / 2026

Northwestern Commit

From 7/17/25: “Kentucky commit. Currently ranked No. 5 in Illinois' rising senior class, Ramoley would continue to show a dynamic toolset that makes him a name to follow as he continues to add more polish to his present toolset. Standing in a physical 6-foot-1, 211-pound frame with strength and foot speed, the Brother Rice product showed a strong right-handed bat with advanced bat speed and developing feel for the barrel. Defensively showed developing reads and routes, with aforementioned foot speed that offers promise to the defensive profile.”

Chance Ruby SS / RHP / Wilmot, WI / 2026

Illinois-Chicago Commit

From 7/17/25: “Illinois-Chicago commit and no. 5th ranked player in the Wisconsin 2026 class. Would showcase a premier right-handed hitting, up-the-middle profile throughout the weekend. A pure athlete who showed twitchy actions both at shortstop and at the plate, Ruby would finish the tournament 9-for-20 with three doubles, two home runs, seven RBIs, and six runs scored. Will be a name to follow within next year’s MLB Draft. An athletic 6-foot, 187-pound frame, Ruby had an interesting appearance on the mound Sunday afternoon. The right-hander was working with a two-pitch mix with the fastball sitting 84-87 mph, T89, and the slider was sitting 75-76 mph, late sharp break. An athletic, fluid mover on the mound with long, clean arm action from the ¾ slot. A competitor on the mound, filling up the zone with ease, with feel for the slider.”

Kaeden Schatsiek OF / RHP / Brimfield, IL / 2026

Illinois State Commit

From 8/05/25: “RHP/OF Kaeden Schatsiek (Brimfield, 2026), the Northern Illinois commit, capped off the Illinois State games with potentially one of the lousiest performances on the mound Wednesday night. The built, 6-foot-4, 215-pound frame tossed his two innings, collecting six strikeouts and allowing one hit, in a dominant performance. The right-hander worked out of the stretch only, working quick down the hill with a high leg kick. Then the arm worked quick and easy with short arm action from a ¾ slot. Working with an electric two-pitch mix, the fastball was up to 92mph, sitting lower 90s, playing with tons of life, getting up to 23 inches of IVB. The slider was dominant, sitting lower 80s with a sharp gyro profile with 2300 RPMs. Beating hitters with ease, Schatsiek was working with tons of confidence on the mound, getting whiffs with the slider and making hitters look uncomfortable. Schatsiek also showed upside on the position-side of things throughout the event. He topped out at 94 mph from the outfield (2nd highest for the event), while leading the entire event in max EV (108.3 mph) and also posting an average EV of 95.2 mph - all with a wood bat. Schatsiek’s bat would show well in-game as well, collecting a couple hits while being on the barrel on more than one occasion.”

Mason Schmidt RHP / OF / Somerset, WI / 2026

Wisconsin-Milwaukee Commit

From 7/31/25: “A lean, long-levered 6-foot-4, 205-pound frame with more room to fill out. The Wisconsin-Milwaukee commit works from an up-tempo, fluid delivery with a high leg kick with coil and tuck. Drop-and-drive move into a cross-fire throwing motion creating deception. ¾ slot with a long, clean arm-action. True three-pitch mix. The fastball had above average extension sitting 87-89mph and topped 89.7 with ride and run generating swing and misses at the top of the zone. Added a sweeping slider at 75-76 mph with a max spin rate of 2,294 and a changeup with ASR and fade at 77-78 mph with a max of 19.5 inches of horizontal movement. Finished the day throwing two scoreless innings while striking out two batters and allowing no hits.”

Drew Stevens C / 3B / Normal Community, IL / 2026

Valparaiso Commit

From 5/07/25: “Valparaiso commit, ranked No. 82 in the state’s junior class. Strong and athletic 5-foot-11, 188-pound frame. Batted cleanup and started behind the plate. Defensively, Stevens continues to impress, looking better behind the dish every time our staff gets a look at him. He’s a field general and communicator, works hard behind the plate and moves around well, also showed above-average receiving traits. What may have impressed the most was his arm on throws to second, 2.07 pop time in-between innings, but the ball played on a line and accurate to the bag on almost every throw last night - had a close call on an in-game throw down to second that was on a line and on the bag. Right-handed hitter at the plate, Stevens power continues to tick up, barreled a ball to center field in his fourth at bat of the game for a flyout.”

Adam Swanson C / OF / Ottawa Township, IL / 2026

Bradley Commit

From 7/22/25: “2025 Senior Future Games: C Adam Swanson (Ottawa Township, 2026) returned to LakePoint this week as he was part of Team Illinois at last summer’s Future Games. Ranked No. 37 in the class, Swanson has some of the best tools all across the board, beginning the event running a 6.42 60 time. His round of batting practice was loud, posting a 100.1 mph max exit velocity while staying on the barrel for an average of 94.2 mph. Per Trackman, Swanson sent his furthest hit ball 389 feet. Defensively, Swanson worked out both behind the dish and in the outfield. He showed a strong arm catching, recording an 80 mph catcher velocity and a 1.81 pop time on his best bullet down to second. His strong arm translated to the outfield as well, posting 90 mph on his best throw to home.”

Rocco Szambelan LHP / OF / Joliet Catholic, IL / 2026

Butler Commit

From 8/05/25: “LHP Rocco Szambelan (Joliet Catholic, 2026) stood out on the mound at the Illinois State Games with an impressive showing. The southpaw featured a running fastball that sat comfortably at 85-88 mph, touching 89 mph, and showed significant arm-side life with -16.7 inches of horizontal movement. He paired it effectively with a tight-breaking slider, which he consistently landed for strikes, demonstrating advanced feel for the pitch. Szambelan works with a loose, athletic delivery, featuring an easy leg lift and explosive finish through release.”

Ian Taylor OF / OF / St Theodore Guerin High School, IN / 2026

George Mason Commit

From 3/18/25: “Profile: Stocky, compact, 5-foot-10, 185 pounder w strength and twitch. 6.94 runner in the 60-yard dash with a 90 mph OF arm to pair. Likely fits best in RF at the next level but has upside in CF. Some of the best force-plate measures of the event with 29-plus standing vertical. Force production is evident in the box. Present plus bat speed in controlled-but-violent rotational right-handed swing. Exit reached over 105 mph for present above average raw power and chances of plus to be developed. Fast barrel works w above average feel. Actions - Offense: Sets up in wide, grounded stance and uses a hovering leg lift stride to pair with an active hand load. Looks to do damage w dangerous intent. More-level path leads to present gap-to-gap power with flashes of it shown to the pull-side. Rotates down. Defense: Aggressive athlete w quick, twitchy arm. Summation: Taylor is coming off an injury-plagued sophomore season and reintroduced himself with a bang with standout force production data. Point blank, Taylor is ultra-twitchy and uses the ground to his advantage to create the aforementioned present plus bat speed. His barrel is in the way of the baseball for a long time with the ability to make hard contact to all fields prevelant. It is more of a strength over speed type athlete, but he is an above average runner underway. Taylor is a savvy, hard-nosed, throwback type kid that has a real chance to impact the game at the next level with his abilities at the plate.”

Brandon Thomsen C / 3B / St. Viator, IL / 2026

Purdue Commit

From 8/05/25: “C Brandon Thomsen (Saint Viator, 2026; Purdue commit) is one of the top defensive backstops in the region, and he continued to show those qualities at the State Games. Presenting a strong 6-foot-2, 199-pound frame, he led the event in pop time posting times as low as 1.78 seconds and also led the event in catcher velocity (84 mph). A quality receiver to pair, he has a soft glove and a loose wrist that allow him to help steal pitches on the corners. A right-handed hitter with barrel strength, Thomsen averaged 97.6 mph off the bat with wood during BP (T102.3 mph) while also reaching a max distance of 388 feet (avg. 308 feet). Another impressive stat from Thomsen’s workout is that he posted a 6.77 60 time, cutting nearly two-tenths off his time since we last saw him in March. During gameplay, he finished with two extra-base hits, three RBI, and a stolen base.”

Jailen Veliz SS / 2B / Yorkville, IL / 2026

Lewis Commit

From 8/05/25: “INF Jailen Veliz (Yorkville, 2026) is one of the top uncommitted names on the market in the state. The right-handed hitter has an athletic stroke that is quick from launch, finding a barrel for an RBI single in the nightcap, aggressive swing with some uphill intentions. High-level defender that will be able to stick up the middle on the dirt, can change the game on the basepaths, aggressive runner always looking to take the extra base.”

Jake Winger 3B / OF / McCutcheon, IN / 2026

Indiana Commit

From 3/03/24: “Winger looks the part of a real prospect and has added significant strength to his 6-foot-3, 210 pound frame over the offseason. I love the mechanical adjustments that Winger has made this offseason - toning down his high leg kick to a now controlled, toe-tap stride. This allows Winger to be on-time with his forward move more consistently, and this showed with 60% of his swings coming off the bat at 90 mph or better. Winger turns the barrel on an ideal path, working on-plane early before the barrel works on a slightly uphill path through the hitting zone. A 7.04 runner - Winger's exit velocities peaked at 97.3 mph and he holds upside as a real power threat. WInger also provided an upside look on the mound, running his fastball up to 88 mph with easy-effort arm action that suggests even more velocity is in the tank.”
