RHP Mason Schmidt (Somerset, 2026) Wisconsin-Milwaukee recruit, offered some of the highest upside at the event and tossed a standout ‘pen. Standing at an imposing 6-foot-5 frame with broad and sloped shoulders looking like he can still add a considerable amount of strength to his frame. Showed feel for four throughout the ‘pen, the fastball sat in the low-90s T93.5 while flashing some large carry action at the top of the zone with multiple fastballs. The secondaries continue to stand out to pair, the slider is advanced with large two-plane breaking action in the mid-70s, showed feel for a new cutter in the low-80s with sharp and late sweeping action and rounded off the arsenal showing feel for a changeup out of the same fastball window.

A lean, long-levered 6-foot-4, 205-pound frame with more room to fill out. The Wisconsin-Milwaukee commit works from an up-tempo, fluid delivery with a high leg kick with coil and tuck. Drop-and-drive move into a cross-fire throwing motion creating deception. ¾ slot with a long, clean arm-action. True three-pitch mix. The fastball had above average extension sitting 87-89mph and topped 89.7 with ride and run generating swing and misses at the top of the zone. Added a sweeping slider at 75-76 mph with a max spin rate of 2,294 and a changeup with ASR and fade at 77-78 mph with a max of 19.5 inches of horizontal movement. Finished the day throwing two scoreless innings while striking out two batters and allowing no hits.
RHP Mason Schmidt (Somerset, 2026) backed up his impressive Future Game performance last July at Lake Point with a bullpen that featured two different fastballs, and two legitimate out pitch weapon secondary offerings in his slider and change up. The 6-foot-4, 200 pound projectable framed righty was up to 91 mph with the four-seam fastball that was driven downhill through all four quadrants of the zone. He also featured a heavy sinker up to 88 mph with late boring and sinking action to the arm side of the plate that will be very effective against right-handed batters. The slider was up to 78 mph and featured a hard, late and big sweeping shape to the pitch. The junior righty also deployed a change up with nasty depth and fade as it approached the hitting zone. Both the slider and the change up showed up as definite out pitch weapons with big movement profiles. What’s exciting is that Schmidt’s frame has plenty of room to add more mass and strength which should lead to more velocity in the future. Mason Schmidt took another step forward and continues to solidify himself as a top talent in the state for the 2026 class.

In an electric outing, Schmidt showcased a big uptick to his velocity since our previous look at him in the winter at the Eau Claire Preseason ID, where he reached an 81 mph high. He followed up that performance with a successful spring at Somerset, where he struck out 77 batters in 45.2 innings. Then, in the summer circuit, Schmidt popped multiple 86 mph fastballs, ranging in the lower to mid-80s throughout. Had a comfortable and confident feel for the breaking ball that created swings-and-misses. A changeup complemented the arsenal, as Schmidt inserted himself as a player to watch for in the near future.
