2026 High School Team Preview: Lowndes Vikings

Ian Smith
Assistant Scouting Director

The 2026 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Georgia.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the GHSA or GIAA state playoffs, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Georgia. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each GHSA classification and Power 25.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each GHSA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

When you make the state championship in three consecutive years, expectations are naturally high but the Vikings return a tremendous core ready to handle that pressure and compete for yet another deep playoff run. Senior OF/LHP Matthew Kerrigan returns with one of the better pure hitters in 6A baseball and more importantly will be making his return to the top of the rotation after rehabbing an elbow injury last spring. SS Cason Fletcher is one of the senior leaders for this club both vocally and defensively, while forming a powerful 1-2 punch with Kerrigan in the lineup. More defensive impact resides at 1B with senior Derrick Carter and his above-average glove that helps this team in multiple ways including a steady power bat in the lineup. OF Tyler Parker, 3B Weston Barfield and 2B Dawkins Parker provide more senior experience in the lineup while looking to end their HS careers on a high note. Two juniors will look to build off big sophomore years in LHP Brinson Rountree, who emerged as a big-time arm for the Vikings last year, especially in the playoffs and OF Heath Davis, who is a strong defender in CF while providing a power/speed threat in the lineup. An underclassman looking to build off a big freshman debut is sophomore C Hank Drew, who brings big-league bloodlines and added physicality that can provide steady impact to this lineup all spring. This will always be a well-coached bunch with Coach Page at the helm and offer one of the best home field advantages in the state, expect the Vikings to be a major factor once again.
