2026 Glenwood Gators Team Preview

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2026 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Glenwood enters the 2026 season coming off a dominant 34-5 campaign that ended with the Class 3A state championship. The Gators controlled the state from start to finish behind an explosive offense and elite pitching, highlighted by historic individual performances. Mason McCraine finished the year ranking second in the state in runs (66), home runs (15), and RBIs (62) while also going 6-0 on the mound, while Tyler Sykes authored one of the most impressive pitching careers in program history, posting a 26-1 record that included 15 straight wins and finishing with 12 victories in 2025 alone. With that championship core graduating, Glenwood turns the page to a roster still rich with experience and expectations.

The Gators return a strong senior-led nucleus beginning with LHP/OF Hudson Campbell (Lurleen B. Wallace CC, 2026), who gives Glenwood a true frontline arm after going 10-1 with a 1.44 ERA last season while also hitting .337 as the everyday right fielder. The middle of the order remains intact with 3B Carter Judah (Lurleen B. Wallace CC, 2026), who hit .380 with five home runs and 45 RBIs, and SS Cal Lawrence (Georgia Highland CC, 2026), who posted a .390 average with three home runs, 12 doubles, and 37 RBIs. Those three provide Glenwood with proven production on both sides of the ball and set the tone offensively. Additional experience comes from SS Trey Claridy (2027), OF/RHP Asher Long (2027), and OF Andrew Wilkinson (2027), giving the Gators depth and athleticism throughout the lineup. Underclassmen OF Nathan Malone (2028), RHP/1B Rhett English (2028), and C Sawyer Moss (2028) add upside and will be relied upon to continue developing as they gain varsity experience. With seven returning position players who either started or logged significant innings a year ago, Glenwood expects to remain dynamic offensively while working new pieces into the pitching staff.

Looking ahead to 2026, Glenwood’s strengths remain its athleticism, speed, and returning production, anchored by a legitimate No. 1 arm in Campbell. Developing additional pitching depth will be a focal point as the Gators look to complement their experienced lineup and prepare for another postseason push. “With returning a lot of experienced position players, the team’s biggest task will be developing talented arms while gaining game experience in hopes of being ready for another playoff run,” head coach Tim Fanning said.
