2026 High School Team Preview: Locust Grove Wildcats

The 2026 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Georgia.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the GHSA or GIAA state playoffs, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Georgia. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each GHSA classification and Power 25.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each GHSA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

TEAM OUTLOOK

With significant depth on the mound and a strong lineup buoyed by two premium bats, Coach Kuhn and the Wildcats have the type of roster to get back to that 20+ win potential and challenge for the region title. Senior RHP Christian Colon has been a multi-year fixture in this rotation and brings the leadership to lead this staff to compete for a region title. Slotting in right behind Colon is junior LHP/1B Liam Collier who might be one of the most important players on the roster. The former Future Gamer is coming off being region POTY with high-level pitchability on the mound and velocity that is only growing. Not to mention one of the best pure hit tools in the region as Collier has hit nearly .500 each of the last two springs. Uncommitted senior RHP/3B Landen Lunsford will hold a significant two-way role as well, rounding out the rotation and offering a consistent profile at the hot corner as well. Senior OF Jamir Johnson has developed into one of the top OF in the state with a high-level power/speed combo that shows up big against quality competition and can be a difference maker in CF to match. Talent in the outfield continues with senior Ayden Elliott, whose strong bat-to-ball skills and above-average athleticism give the Wildcats a talented table-setter with versatility across the grass. Catcher will be a position to watch for Locust Grove and watch for sophomore C AJ Davis to put himself firmly in that discussion. An early playoff exit always hurts but this group knows what it takes to make that playoff run (Elite Eight in ‘24) and will be ready to go out on a high note.
