2026 High School Team Preview: Colquitt County Packers

The 2026 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Georgia.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the GHSA or GIAA state playoffs, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Georgia. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each GHSA classification and Power 25.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Two big things returned in a big way for the Diamond Pack in 2025, showing both a high-powered offense and their first winning season since 2018. Coach Strickland will have a younger squad this spring with 12 seniors graduating from last year’s team but the upside and talent on this team can compete in one of South Georgia’s toughest regions. Senior Tyson Hobby is going to be looked upon in a major way this spring as one of the only returning seniors and has the profile to do so. Has the abilities to play multiple positions for this club with consistency at the plate as well. While the senior class is small, the group of juniors on this roster have a chance to carry this squad this spring. RHP/OF Bowen DeRosso is as important as anyone for the Packers with SP1 upside for this club and real power that will be needed in the middle of this lineup. C/INF Dom McCann is the prototype 2 hole hitter with immense feel for the barrel and advanced approach that leads to a high OBP profile. Showed some added power this summer/fall that will be huge as well. The 2027 talent continues with 2B/RHP Bryce Roberts who could be the leadoff hitter for this team while filling out a rotation spot and OF Carter Summerlin has been known to show the clutch factor with a true gamer mentality on both sides. Alongside DeRosso and Roberts, junior INF/RHP Carter Penuel can have some two-way value for this club in what looks to be a bigger role this upcoming spring. A good group of upcoming sophomores can provide good depth for this team including RHP/UTL Owen Avery and 1B Chase Enfinger, among others. There’s going to be trial and error for this young group early, but doesn’t seem bullish for this squad to push their season win total from last year or even better in 2026.
