We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.
Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.
Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

TEAM OUTLOOK
The Lakeside School enters the 2026 season coming off one of the most dominant years ever recorded in Alabama high school baseball. The Chiefs finished 53-6 in 2025, went 6-0 in the postseason, and captured the AISA Class A state championship while setting program and national benchmarks along the way. Lakeside posted the most wins in school history, scored 507 runs (most in the country), and struck out 552 batters as a pitching staff, all while not losing to a single team from Alabama. The season was capped by sweeping major individual honors, including AISA Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, and Hitter of the Year, underscoring just how complete the roster was top to bottom under the helm of head coach Tony Rasmus, one of the winningest coaches in the state.
Despite graduating elite talent, the Chiefs return a loaded core that ensures expectations remain sky-high. C/RHP Tyler Mark Bullock (2026) is back after one of the most productive offensive seasons in the state, hitting .443 with 81 hits and 64 RBIs, earning ASWA AISA First Team honors and being named the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association Hitter of the Year. On the mound, RHP/1B Boston Brown (Auburn, 2027) returns after a dominant season in which he went 10-3 with a 0.71 ERA, struck out 136 batters in 78 innings, and added 58 RBIs at the plate, earning AISA Pitcher of the Year recognition. The middle of the field remains a strength with SS JB Upton (Jacksonville State, 2027), a switch-hitting shortstop and one of the top prospects in the 2027 class, alongside SS/C/RHP Trent Hayes (2027), who hit .437 with 66 hits and 48 RBIs and earned ASWA AISA First Team Shortstop honors. RHP/3B Luke McGowan (2027) adds another frontline arm after going 8-1 with five shutouts and three no-hitters, while also hitting .343, and UTL Brayden Vachon (2026) returns after batting .396 to provide versatility and production. Lakeside’s depth continues to separate it from most programs. Underclass talent includes OF/RHP Harleem Fuller (2029), an elite athlete expected to make an immediate impact, RHP Mason Cody (2030), who has already reached 85 mph, LHP Grayson Edwards (2028) as another impact arm, C Jacob Folds (2028) with a strong arm behind the plate, and LHP Jace Britton (2030) featuring a quality changeup. Additional experienced pieces such as RHP/OF Jaxon Langham (2026), INF Noah Miller (2026), and OF Trevor Harris (2027) further reinforce a roster built for sustained dominance.
Looking ahead to 2026, Lakeside once again projects as a complete team capable of controlling games on both sides of the ball. The pitching staff remains the backbone, with multiple arms touching the upper-80s and Boston Brown reaching into the low-90s, supported by added depth that provides both frontline options and length. Offensively, the return of All-State bats like Bullock and Hayes ensures the lineup will continue to apply constant pressure. “After not losing to any team from Alabama in 2025 I fully expect this 2026 team to be similar to the 2025 bunch,” head coach Tony Rasmus said. “Deep, deep pitching staff with a bunch of returning hitters. This bunch could contend in public school baseball. One of the hardest lifting teams I’ve ever coached. This is a special group.”
