The 2026 high school baseball season is right around the corner, and as always, excitement is building across the Bayou State. Team Preview
After another dominant regular season and a second consecutive run to the state semifinals, the Covenant Christian Lions enter 2026 with unfinished business. A 36–1 record a year ago cemented their status as one of the premier programs in Class 1A, but the standard inside the program has now shifted from deep playoff runs to winning it all.
Team Strengths
Pitching remains the backbone of this roster. The Lions return a deep, experienced staff with multiple arms who have proven they can win big games in pressure moments. With several returners who logged wins, saves, and high-leverage innings last spring, Covenant Christian should once again be one of the toughest teams to score on in the classification.
Team Weaknesses
Offensive consistency will be the primary area of emphasis. While the Lions bring back several productive bats, continuing to develop length and reliability throughout the lineup will be key to complementing their elite pitching staff—especially against top postseason competition.
Top Returning Players
-Senior 3B/RHP Owen Trosclair
One of the top two-way players in Class 1A, Trosclair went 6–1 on the mound while hitting .400 at the plate in 2025. He brings leadership, confidence, and impact on both sides of the ball.
-Senior C/UTL Peyton Trosclair
A steady presence in the lineup, Peyton also hit .400 last spring. His versatility and consistency make him a key piece in the middle of the order and a leader defensively.
-Senior RHP Mason Dudek
Dudek was a reliable winner in 2025, finishing 5–0 on the mound. He provides valuable experience and stability to the pitching rotation.
-Junior OF/LHP Nathan Loupe
Loupe was a difference-maker in multiple roles, going 2–0 with four saves while hitting .350. His ability to impact games late gives the Lions flexibility in tight contests.
-Sophomore INF/RHP Kason Perry
Perry hit .350 as a freshman and is expected to step into the closer role this spring. His continued development could be a major X-factor for Covenant Christian.
-Junior 1B/LHP Evan Duplantis
Duplantis went 2–0 on the mound and hit .330 last season, providing production at first base and another dependable arm.
Outlook
The expectations are clear: State Championship or bust. Anything short of returning to Sulphur for the LHSAA State Tournament would be viewed as a disappointment for this veteran group. With a challenging schedule designed to test them early and often, the Lions should be well-prepared when playoff time arrives. If the offense takes the next step to match their pitching, Covenant Christian has all the pieces to finish the job in 2026.
