Mississippi Preseason All-State: Quick Hits, Outfielders

STARKVILLE, MS — The Mississippi Preseason All-State was held on Sunday, February 1st at the Palmeiro Center on the campus of Mississippi State that featured top talent from the 2026-2029 classes. Players went through a pro-style workout with TrackMan and VALD Performance tech, while pitchers threw in a bullpen setting and were able to get data and metrics on our TrackMan unit.
Some prospects built on past showings, while others made strong first impressions.

Crews Albritton OF / LHP / Tri-County Academy, MS / 2027Crews Albritton, a 2027 graduate from Tri County Academy, brings a strong, athletic 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame and the tools to impact the game in multiple ways. He shows plus athleticism with a 6.6-second 60-yard dash and has produced a max exit velocity of 101 mph at the plate. Hitting from the left side, Albritton features a pull-side approach with big-time home run potential, profiling as a true middle-of-the-order run producer. He also contributes on the mound as an effective left-handed pitcher, working up to 88 mph with a solid secondary arsenal. A former Future Gamer and still uncommitted, Albritton’s combination of strength, athleticism, and two-way ability makes him a high-upside prospect to follow in the 2027 class. |

Trent Buckley RHP / 1B / Columbia Academy, MS / 2027Trent Buckley, a 2027 graduate from Columbia Academy and Ole Miss commit, continues to validate his status as the top-ranked player in the class. At 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds, Buckley possesses a big, strong, and athletic frame that translates loudly on both sides of the ball. From the outfield, he’s been up to 95 mph on throws to the plate, showcasing elite arm strength. Buckley also shows impressive athleticism for his size, running a 6.65 in the 60-yard dash. Offensively, the left-handed hitter is a constant threat, producing exit velocities up to 101 mph with a middle-to-pull side approach that features natural loft and power. On the mound, the former Future Gamer works up to 91 mph from the right side and complements his fastball with a solid breaking ball. His tools and performance point clearly toward legitimate two-way potential at the next level. |

Parker Hawkins OF / OF / Sumrall, MS / 2028Parker Hawkins, a 2028 graduate from Sumrall High School, shows a lean, wiry 6-foot-2, 175-pound frame with present tools and plenty of room for continued development. He brings sneaky speed to the field, clocking a 6.65 in the 60-yard dash. A switch hitter, Hawkins produces exit velocities near 100 mph and works a line-drive, all-fields approach that plays well in game settings. From the outfield, he’s been up to 85 mph on throws, showing solid arm strength to pair with his athleticism. Each time he’s been evaluated, Hawkins continues to show steady progression, making him an intriguing 2028 prospect with clear upside. |

Adam Rugg OF / RHP / Biloxi, MS / 2027Adam Rugg, a 2027 graduate from Biloxi High School, brings a smaller, compact 5-foot-9, 170-pound frame that packs a punch. He shows a solid tool set across the board, highlighted by exit velocities up to 100 mph. At the plate, Rugg works a middle-of-the-field to pull-side line drive approach that should translate well in game action. He’s a decent runner with a 6.95 in the 60-yard dash and has been up to 83 mph from the outfield, showing accuracy on throws to the plate. Rugg is a prospect that will be important to follow closely this spring as his all-around game continues to trend upward. |

John Douglas Westfall OF / RHP / Madison Central, MS / 2029John Douglas Westfall, a 2029 graduate from Madison Central High School, shows a compact frame that is still maturing and continues to trend in a positive direction. This was our second good look at JD after seeing him at a recent ID event, and he once again impressed with his steady progression and overall feel for the game. Westfall displays a strong fundamental foundation at the plate, producing exit velocities up to 93 mph with a polished swing, level bat path, and a middle-of-the-field approach. Defensively, he’s a solid presence with developing arm strength that’s been up to 87 mph across the diamond. He also shows dual potential, with upside on the mound and a fastball that already reaches into the low 80s. Westfall is another young prospect who is a must-follow as he continues to develop. |

Axton Westmoreland OF / LHP / Hernando, MS / 2028Axton Westmoreland, a 2028 graduate from Hernando High School, features a lean, athletic build with plenty of strength still to come. Ranked as the top player in Mississippi’s 2028 class, Westmoreland shows next-level ability as both a position player and a pitcher. As a freshman, he hit .441 in Mississippi’s highest classification and looks poised to take on an even larger leadership role. At the plate, he can spray the baseball to all fields with developing power, already producing exit velocities up to 101 mph. On the mound, Westmoreland works into the low 80s and pairs his fastball with exceptional secondary stuff, keeping hitters off balance with advanced feel and movement. He’s a high-upside two-way prospect we’re eager to see back in action this spring. |

Case Simmons OF / OF / Brookhaven Academy, MS / 2028Case Simmons, a 2028 graduate from Brookhaven Academy, features a lean, athletic frame with plenty of room to add strength. He continues to show steady progression, clearly benefiting from the work he’s putting in. At the plate, Simmons brings a pull-side approach with intent to do damage, highlighted by a 103 mph exit velocity recorded this past Sunday. There’s noticeable aggression through contact, translating to loud impact off the bat. He runs well now and should tick up another step as he continues to develop. Defensively, he’s been up to 81 mph from the outfield with accuracy on his throws. Simmons looks poised to take his game to another level this spring and is firmly in the must-follow category. |

Seth Welch OF / 1B / Hamilton, MS / 2028Seth Welch, a 2028 graduate from Hamilton High School, brings a smaller, compact 5-foot-9, 155-pound frame but makes up for size with elite, game-changing quickness. He ran a 6.4 in the 60-yard dash and pairs that speed with excellent instincts on the field. At the plate, Welch is aggressive with a pull-side approach, generating exit velocities nearing 100 mph. Defensively, he covers ground in the gaps with a developing arm that’s been up to 80 mph. With his combination of speed, skill, and competitiveness, Welch is set to give opposing teams plenty of trouble this season. |

Carlos Robinson OF / South Panola, MS / 2026Carlos Robinson, a 2026 graduate from South Panola High School, possesses a muscular, athletic 5-foot-10, 185-pound frame and brings game-changing speed to the field. He’s an elite base-stealing threat, running a 6.47 in the 60-yard dash and creating constant pressure on opposing defenses. At the plate, Robinson complements his speed with a line-drive, middle-of-the-field approach that allows him to consistently control the gaps, something his pitchers can rely on. Defensively, he has an accurate arm from the outfield, topping out at 81 mph. Robinson is committed to Itawamba CC and profiles as a dynamic impact player at the next level. |

Landon Evans OF / 1B / New Albany, MS / 2027Landon Evans, a 2027 graduate from New Albany High School, boasts a strong, durable 6-foot-2, 195-pound frame with clear next-level power potential. At the plate, he works a pull-side approach with loft, producing exit velocities up to 102 mph with a mid-90s average, making him a consistent threat in the middle of the lineup. Evans also shows good speed in the outfield, running a 6.68 in the 60-yard dash, and pairs it with a very strong arm that has been measured at 88 mph. Still uncommitted going into this spring, he’s a prospect whose combination of size, strength, and tools will likely draw serious attention quickly. |

Jaylen Lee OF / 1B / Petal, MS / 2028Jaylen Lee, a 2028 graduate from Petal High School, features a long, lanky, athletic 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame and uses his leverage well in the swing. He creates slight loft through the zone and has produced exit velocities up to 101 mph with a middle-to-pull side approach. Lee is a solid runner, posting a 6.75 in the 60-yard dash, and shows developing arm strength from the outfield up to 80 mph. With his combination of athleticism, leverage, and present impact at the plate, he’s a prospect who could develop into something special and will be one to follow closely over the next calendar year. |
