Top Defenders Class of 2027

Tyson Moore C / OF / Acceleration Sports Academy, MN / 2027

Tyson Moore comes in as the No. 7 ranked catcher nationally in the 2027 class. The Minnesota commit has been one of the most closely followed players in the state over the past few years due to his advanced abilities behind the plate. What immediately stands out is his strong frame at 6-foot, 196 pounds, which allows him to handle the physical demands of the position.

Tyson Moore, the No. 7-ranked catcher in the 2027 class and a Minnesota commit, stands out for his advanced defensive skills and physical profile at 6-foot, 196 pounds. While his pop time doesn’t necessarily jump off the charts (1.94–2.09), his advanced footwork, clean transfer, and 78 MPH catcher velocity allow him to get the ball out quickly and efficiently. What makes Moore especially intriguing is his quick exchange, ability to spin the ball cleanly to second, and overall athleticism should pair even better as he continues to add strength, giving him a strong chance to elevate his catch-and-throw impact moving forward.

Lastly, Moore is simply a flat-out receiver. Whether he’s blocking balls in the dirt or making acrobatic side-to-side picks, he consistently keeps the ball in front. There aren’t many pitchers he’s caught who could get the ball by him, even if they tried. Add in his awareness to execute back picks off blocks and dirt ball picks, which make him a true playmaker at a position that doesn’t always offer many opportunities to impact the game in that way.
