2026 High School Team Preview: Calvary Day Cavaliers

The 2026 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Georgia.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the GHSA or GIAA state playoffs, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Georgia. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each GHSA classification and Power 25.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each GHSA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The road to back-to-back state championships will have to overcome some key senior graduates but the Cavaliers return a core upperclass group that knows what it takes to win and will be ready to continue their 14-game winning streak that they finished last season on. The engine that will run this team in 2026 will start with the committed senior trio of LHP Quinn Johnson, SS Dalton Kelley and 1B/3B Carter Hampton, who each bring multiple years of varsity experience with significant track records of production at a high-level that will be pivotal to this team making another run. Senior C Waylan Heidik is the defensive leader for this club while looking to build off a strong offensive showing from a year ago (.386, 7 2B). RHP/OF Noah Bauer is another two-way senior for the Cavaliers who’s expanding their role after thriving as one of the most trusted arms a year ago with good production in a limited showing at the plate. Junior OF/LHP James Mobley can be a difference maker for Coach Gross this spring as he moves into a full-time role in CF after hitting .304 in a part-time effort last year while bringing a consistent LHP to the staff as well. Underclass production will be important this spring for Calvary Day as sophomores OF/LHP Moses Mehl and 3B Will Bauer could be in-line for everyday production while freshman 2B/RHP Andrew Wallace is going to be gaining valuable experience as well as being looked upon for instant impact in a big opportunity. The road back to the state championship runs through Savannah, the Cavaliers have the talent to handle the target on their backs.
