Prep Baseball Colorado Staff

The Colorado high school baseball season kicks off on March 5th, opening day for regular season action under CHSAA regulations. Leading up to opening day, we’ll be publishing our team previews ahead of the 2026 spring season, touching on programs spanning all state classifications, counting down through the official Prep Baseball Colorado Preseason Power 25 Rankings.

Perennially, we’ve submitted a preseason questionnaire to high school head coaches across the entire state. Their responses have been flooding in and we’re using the detailed insight they’ve provided in our team-by-team preseason analysis.

2026 SEASON OUTLOOK:

Castle View enters the 2026 spring season in a bit of a retooling phase after graduating several key contributors, but there’s still a foundation in place that gives this group a chance to be competitive early. While the roster will feature some new faces in prominent roles, the Sabercats aren’t starting from scratch.

The tone for this team starts on the mound with right-hander Cole Cates, who is expected to anchor the pitching staff. The uncommitted arm has continued to trend in the right direction, highlighted by a developing fastball that now sits in the mid-to-upper 80s. Cates’ value doesn’t stop on the bump, as he should also be counted on for meaningful at-bats in the middle of the order, giving Castle View a true two-way presence to build around.

Offensively, Tyler Feldhake returns as one of the more proven bats in the lineup. The junior middle infielder finished among the team’s top five hitters a season ago and brings a blend of strength and athleticism that translates on both sides of the ball. Feldhake posted a .355 average with nine extra-base hits and a .939 OPS across 108 plate appearances in spring 2025, and he continues to project well as his game matures.

With several lineup spots and innings up for grabs, Coach Johnson will have the opportunity to evaluate depth early and see which new contributors are ready for varsity roles. If this group can find consistency in the first few weeks, Castle View has the makeup of a team that could once again push toward the postseason.

The Sabercats will be tested throughout the spring with 5A matchups against Ralston Valley, Grandview, Mountain Vista, and Regis Jesuit, providing plenty of opportunities to measure where this roster stacks up as the season unfolds.
