Prep Baseball Oklahoma Staff

The Oklahoma high school baseball season kicks off on Feb. 23 for classes A and B and Mar. 1 for classes 2A-6A, opening day for regular season action under OSSAA regulations. Leading up to opening day, we’ll be publishing our team previews ahead of the 2025 spring season, touching on programs spanning all state classifications, counting down to the official Prep Baseball Oklahoma Preseason Power 25 Rankings.

Perennially, we’ve submitted a preseason questionnaire to high school head coaches across the entire state. Their responses have been flooding in and we’re using the detailed insight they’ve provided in our team-by-team preseason analysis.

Our 2026 preseason coverage continues today.

2026 SEASON OUTLOOK

No. of Returning Position Players: 2
No. of Returning Pitchers: 4

Top Returners:

  • Jaxon McArthur, C, Sr., 5'10, 175, R/R.
    • Jaxon will be a three year starter for us, he has hit leadoff since he was a sophomore. Very athletic young man and great baseball IQ. Barton commit.
  • Krew Keyes, 2B, Jr., 5'10. 170. S/R.
    • Krew is another athletic young man, he started at 2B as a sophomore. He will hit at the top of the lineup for us this year. We expect big things from Krew this season.

Top Newcomers:

  • Wyatt Taliaferro, SS, Jr., 6'1, 180 R/R.
    • Wyatt is able to play multiple positions and will play a big role in our success this season. We expect Wyatt to have a big season.
  • Miller Mayfield, 3B, Soph., 6'0 160 R/R.
    • Miller is a very athletic young man, he has a high baseball IQ. He has limited experience at the varsity level, but we think he has a chance to be a special player.

Key Players Lost:

Coach’s Insight: “We will be a very athletic team. We will need to put pressure on defenses with our speed on the bases. Work ethic is one of our biggest strengths, this group has worked hard in the off season to put themselves in a position to be successful. Our biggest weakness is experience. We only return two starters from last season. We will be talented, just young at a lot of spots. ” – Jay McClure, head coach

Outlook: Elk City comes into the spring following a state tournament run, 26-5 record, and the expectations to go deeper in 2026. Offensively, the Big Elks will be dynamic with an athletic lineup that is led by senior backstop Jaxon McArthur coming off another big spring a season ago as well as senior infielder Krew Keyes. Their biggest question mark will be on the mound in 2026, but the stout schedule throughout the year will give Coach McClure and staff ample time to prepare their squad for another postseason run. A mix of youth and experience, we anticipate their best baseball will be played in May and this group will be among the most competitive in 4A come state tourney time.
