As we look back on the 2025 summer tournament circuit here in Kansas City, we’ll be breaking down the top players by tool from each class — based on evaluations from our scouting team at Homefield and Creekside. Follow along as we take a deep dive into these players and highlight the summers they put together. Each week will feature our top five players based on each tool from the class, presented in no particular order.

Top Defenders Class of 2026

Roy Roseman C / 1B / Olathe West, KS / 2026

Roy Roseman is everything you want in a catcher. The switch-hitting, brick-wall backstop was one of the most enjoyable catchers to watch this past year. A near-6-foot catcher with a strong, athletic build from Olathe West, Roseman is committed to play at Illinois State next fall. Like many of the catchers on our Top Defenders list, he earns his spot because of his advanced positional skills and his ability to handle a pitching staff. While his pop time (1.88–2.10) is above average and his catcher velocity (76 mph) is in line with the top catchers in his class, he truly benefits from superb footwork and receiving ability.

Roseman consistently shows the toughness and tenacity needed to execute difficult blocks and does an excellent job working for his pitchers. His ability to move pitches and present them as strikes stood out, along with his strong understanding of game situations. He commands the field, keeps his team prepared, and anticipates action with runners on base. As Roseman continues to add strength over the coming years, we believe it will only further enhance his skills and overall impact behind the plate.
