Matt Miller
State Director

POPLARVILLE, MS — The South Mississippi Preseason ID was held on Sunday, January 18th at Pearl River CC in Poplarville, MS that featured top talent from the 2027-2030 classes. Players went through a pro-style workout with TrackMan and VALD Performance tech, while pitchers threw in a bullpen setting and were able to get data and metrics on our TrackMan unit.

Some prospects built on past showings, while others made strong first impressions.

We continue our post-event coverage with a look at some of the top performers from the event, with more breakdowns and full scouting reports coming soon.

QUICK HITS

+ Slade Bullock (Seminary, 2027) Bullock is a physically imposing right-hander with a loose, lengthy arm path and intriguing upside. He has been up to 86 mph on the fastball with more velocity likely to come as he continues to refine his delivery. His changeup stands out as one of the better ones we’ve seen in this class, consistently mimicking fastball arm speed with late fade and deception. Given the combination of size, arm action, and feel for a true off-speed pitch, Bulluck is a high-upside arm that warrants additional in-person looks moving forward.

+ Miles Dellenger (Ocean Springs, 2028) Dellenger is a young right-hander with a solid foundation in his delivery and the ability to repeat it consistently. He has been up to 84 mph with natural arm-side run on the fastball and shows encouraging feel for a developing secondary arsenal that includes a changeup and slider. The combination of delivery consistency, present arm speed, and pitchability at this age makes Dellenger a must-follow prospect for recruiters as he continues to mature physically and refine his arsenal.

+ Eli Herring (Greene County, 2027) Herring shows legitimate next-level power potential, even though his offensive approach is geared more toward driving the gaps than selling out for loft. He posted elite batted-ball metrics, reaching a 101 mph exit velocity with a 96 mph average during his round, and consistently works the middle of the field with authority. Defensively, he shows developing footwork on the infield with adequate arm strength to finish plays. Still uncommitted, Herring is a bat-first prospect that recruiters need to get eyes on as his overall game continues to trend upward.

+ Jesse McDevitt (Biloxi, 2029) McDevitt had a strong all-around showing Sunday at Pearl River CC, standing out most notably on the mound as an arm to follow in the 2029 class. He worked up to 80 mph on the fastball with natural arm-side action and showed advanced feel for his changeup, effectively killing spin to create deception. His breaking ball is still developing but already shows solid shape and promise. McDevitt is a young arm trending in the right direction, and it will be worth tracking his progress closely in future game action.

+ Jasper Moran (St. Patrick's, 2027) Moran brings present strength and physicality to the field, highlighted by an event-high 102 mph exit velocity. Offensively, he shows a middle-to-pull side approach with the ability to create occasional loft and impact contact. Behind the plate, Moran pairs a strong throwing arm with quick feet, producing consistent pop times around 2.0 seconds. Still uncommitted, he is a well-rounded catching prospect with power upside who should firmly be on recruiting radars.

+ Nolan Scott (Stone, 2027) Scott features a well-synced, repeatable swing that produced multiple line drives to the middle of the field, with exit velocities reaching 95 mph. Behind the plate, he showed next-level footwork paired with solid arm strength and accuracy, posting an event-best 1.93 pop time. The tools are clearly present on both sides of the ball, and the next step will be seeing how his skill set translates into live game action this spring.

+ Cohen Moseley (Southeast Lauderdale, 2028) Moseley shows a solid foundational skill set with a polished, well-synced swing that produces consistent line drives from the middle to the pull side. He registered a 92 mph exit velocity and demonstrates an approach geared for hard contact. Defensively, he displays advanced ability for his age behind the plate, pairing a strong, accurate throwing arm with a 1.94 pop time. Moseley is another catcher from this event who should be closely followed as he continues to develop.
