Q&A with Kansas City Kansas CC Commit Cale Fossett

Eliott Wilk
Central Region Operations Director

INF/RHP Cale Fossett (Shawnee Mission South) is one of the top two-way talents in a talent-rich Kansas senior class, currently sitting inside the top 25 at No. 24 in our rankings. A member of Team Kansas at the 2024 Future Games, Fossett brings swing-and-miss stuff on the mound, highlighted by a fastball up to 90 mph, and pairs it with triple-digit exit velocities at the plate with power to all fields. Earlier last fall, Fossett announced his commitment to Kansas City Kansas Community College.

We recently had the chance to talk to Fossett about his recruitment process, along with some other fun topics, below.

Our Q&A

Prep Baseball: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Cale: I was looking for a program that was close to home and gave me the best opportunity to grow as a person and a player.

PB: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?

C: There were many factors that went into my decision to choose KCKCC, but the most impactful was the genuine interest and hospitality shown to me from day one.

PB: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

C: There will be ups and downs throughout the process, regardless of skill level—you just have to trust it. Comparison is the thief of joy, so don’t get caught up in it. Everyone has their own path; you just have to find yours.

PB: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

C: Yes, I wanted to remain close to home while still finding a program where I felt comfortable and supported.

PB: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

C: Schools began reaching out to me on August 1st of my junior year, and while I heard from a few along the way, attending a camp at KCK is where everything truly clicked and they were able to evaluate my skills firsthand.

PB: Was there a particular Prep Baseball tournament or showcase that helped accelerate your recruiting process? If yes, how so?

C: The Future Games was the most impactful event in my recruiting process. PBR provides a one of a kind atmosphere filled with scouts and recruiters, making it an unmatched experience.

PB: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?

C: Going the JUCO route was what my family and I felt was in my best interest, so I stayed in contact with a few programs in the area. After attending the camp at KCK, it really made a very difficult decision much easier.

PB: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?

C: I’d go with Beau Peterson—he has a very professional approach at the plate, and if you make a mistake on the mound, he makes you pay for it. If you go watch him play, you’re almost guaranteed to see him absolutely torch a baseball

PB: If you could steal any tool or quality from another player in the state, what would it be and who would it be from?

C: My high school teammate Otto Knust is very fun to watch with his pitching ability and command of the zone, all at top-end velocity. But the trait I’d most want to take from him is his personality off the field—he treats everyone with respect and always looks for an opportunity to be kind to someone.

PB: Who is the next talented young player to keep an eye on out of your high school or travel program?

C: Theo Fisher, who is a 2028 on my travel program, has every tool and opportunity to make a big impact throughout his high school career.

PB: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

C: From the moment I began playing, I’ve aspired to compete at the next level.

PB: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

C: Walking into LakePoint for the first time and seeing the atmosphere, surrounded by people who love the game as much as I do.

PB: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?

C: I believe we have the most talent in the state, and anything less than proving it would fall short of our potential.
