Prep Baseball CA: What was it like seeing all of the college coaches and scouts at LakePoint for the first time?
Crang: "It was pretty mind-blowing. I had heard what LakePoint was like before coming. I had watched some videos and listened to what other players said, but actually being immersed in it was different. Walking past thirty scouts on one field and seeing them eye to eye was surreal. It was definitely a one-of-a-kind experience."
Prep Baseball CA: What were your thoughts on being part of Team West Coast and playing alongside that group?
Crang: "Being around other good players brings out the best in you. That level of competition pushes everyone. Being with great teammates and great coaches made it even better. I've known Coach [Steven] Hardesty for a while, but we had never been on the same field or in the same dugout. Being with him and Coach Les [Lukach] was a lot of fun and made the experience even better."
Prep Baseball CA: How would you assess your performance, and what was the competition like?
Crang: "Every at-bat was against quality pitching. I faced some of the top arms in the country, and I had some good at-bats and some bad ones, but that’s baseball. I thought I competed well and gave full effort every time."
Prep Baseball CA: What advice would you give to a player who will be at Future Games next summer?
Crang: "One thing at a time. Give everything you have and have fun. Don’t let it get too big. That’s the biggest thing."
Crang: "There was more urgency from coaches to recruit me sooner rather than later. That was the biggest change. I went on a couple of visits after that, and it really helped move things forward."
On August 15th, Crang took to social media to announce his commitment to Fordham University.
Prep Baseball CA: You visited Fordham shortly after the event. What stood out about that experience?
Crang: "I went straight from Georgia to New York City. Being around a Division I program and talking with the coaches was a great experience and a big learning opportunity. Fordham checked all the boxes for me academically, and being on the East Coast was something I was really interested in. Being in the city was also a great experience."
Prep Baseball CA: What advice would you give to players going through the recruiting process?
Crang: "Be as transparent as possible with college coaches, especially off the field. Communication is key. Understanding what schools are looking for and making sure you’re on the same page matters a lot. On the field, always show effort. Run hard, compete, and control what you can control. Take care of business both on and off the field."
Prep Baseball CA: Looking ahead, what are you focused on this upcoming season?
Crang: "Our main goal is to win league. That’s always the first goal. We have a new head coach and a slightly new style of play, but we have the same core group of guys. We’re excited about it and expecting to do well."
Prep Baseball CA: Any final thoughts?
Crang: "Relationships played a huge role in my recruiting process. Having people who have seen me, know me personally, and can speak on my behalf was one of the biggest reasons I’m where I am now. PBR events and the relationships built through them were a huge asset for me."
Crang, the No. 10 ranked third baseman in the state in the Class of 2026, hopes to carry his momentum from a very successful weekend at LakePoint into a strong senior season for San Marcos and beyond at Fordham University.
