2026 NorCal Preseason All State: Quick Hits

Hank LoForte
Northern CA Scouting Director

On Sunday, January 25th, the Prep Baseball California team hosted the Northern California Preseason All-State at Stanford University in Stanford, Cal. This was an invite-only event for high school classes (2026-2029), and gave our staff an ample look at the area's top prospects.

Nearly 150 players made their way to Stanford and participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball California staff.

Today, we will be looking at the top talent from Sunken Diamond this past weekend at Stanford University.

Top Performers from each class:

Class of 2029

Joey Dresch C / OF / Menlo-Atherton High, CA / 2029

Dresch stood at 5’6” 137.4 lbs, but don't let the size and frame fool you, the kid can flat out play baseball. During the defensive workout, his arm was one of the ones where you had to watch the whole time. Dresch was a consistent 1.91-1.94, with very advanced footwork and a very strong arm. Will be a long follow, with these tools, he’s got a very bright future ahead. His athleticism can translate all over the field too as he did a workout with the outfielders and proved he can hang. The bat will develop over time, and did a great job of hitting the ball hard on the ground with authority.

Highlights:

Pop Time: 1.91-1.94 | C Velo: 76 | OF Velo: 82 | 60 YD: 7.45 | VE: 75.01

Joseph D. Keller C / RHP / West Park High, CA / 2029

Keller was another one of the Catchers in the ‘29 class that stood out. Physically, he's 5’11” 195.3 lbs with a cannon of an arm. The pop times were between 2.09-2.10, with a lot of time to get those down. During the hitting, Keller had a max EV of 93.6 mph, which is a personal best for him in events. Keller, also ran it up to 85.3 mph on the bump, which is very promising considering that he still hasn’t played a year of high school yet.

Highlights:

Pop Time: 2.09-2.10 | C Velo: 75 | EV max: 93.6 mph | 60 YD: 7.62 | FB Max: 85.3 mph

Brady Wellens SS / RHP / Liberty High, CA / 2029

Brady, brother of Stevie Wellens (former Future Games Team Northern California SS), started his own journey with Prep Baseball this past Sunday and definitely turned some heads. Wellens stood at 6’1” 175 lbs, his infield velocity across was up to 80 mph, showing he can stay low and keep his momentum through the baseball. I really liked the bat, its a gap to gap approach with some juice. Wellens has the potential to be one of the top infielders in his ‘29 class, he also pitches but didn't throw a bullpen this event.

Highlights:

60 YD: 7.37 | INF Velo: 80 | EV max: 92.3 | RH/LH Grip: 129.7 | 129.5

Michael Ohman 1B / LHP / Junipero Serra High School, CA / 2029

Ohman is another two-way player from the bay area that proved his worth this past weekend, standing at 5’10” 177.8 lbs. Ohman’s got a sweet lefty swing from the left side, with a max EV of 96.5 mph and a max distance of 341 ft. His 60 was only a 7.57 but that will go down when he begins to get stronger and his body matures. Ohman on the mound was where he looked promising too, with a FB already up to 82, and secondaries for strikes.

Highlights:

OF Velo: 82 mph | EV max: 96.5 mph | 60 YD: 7.57 | FB Max: 81.9 mph | Max Distance: 341 ft

Lucas Rancadore OF / RHP / Bradshaw Christian School, CA / 2029

Rancadore is a familiar face for the Prep Baseball staff, his last event was in October and has put on over 15lbs since, his physicality is insane for how young he still is. Standing at 6’1” 207 lbs, Rancadore ran a 7.36 60 and managed to have his PR best for EV of 95.6 mph, and a max distance of 373 ft. He will be in a very small league for the high school season ,but his team is very talented. Rancadore pitches too and has been in the low 80’s, but he’s a real bat in the ‘29 class.

Highlights:

OF Velo: 81 mph | EV max: 95.6 mph | 60 YD: 7.36 | Max Distance: 373 ft

Dillon Veale 3B / 1B / Redwood High, CA / 2029

Veale came to Georgia with our Junior FG team this past summer, and has grown an inch and put on 15+ pounds, standing at 6’0” 188.5 lbs. Veale is going to be a middle of the order type guy and can play the corners, when he’s not on the mound. His bread and butter will be as a pitcher, there’s a lot to like about his repeatable mechanics and his demeanor.

Highlights:

INF Velo: 78 | EV max: 91.4 mph | FB Max: 82.2 mph

Class of 2028

Jacob Gray SS / 2B / De LA Salle High School, CA / 2028

Gray was one of the players I was most excited to get eyes on, since I only got to see him play one game at the Boras classic. Gray ran a 6.95 with a top speed of 19.6 mph. Gray produced smooth actions in the infield workout, mix that with fast feet and a strong arm (85 mph IF velo), he can stay on the left side in the future. His BP workout started out slow, but once he got his timing down, he started unloading on baseballs into the trees at Sunken Diamond. He utilizes his lower half extremely well and his hands are direct to to the baseball. Very impressed with Gray and will see more of him this upcoming season.

Highlights:

INF Velo: 85 mph | 60 YD: 6.95 | EV max: 100.6 mph | Max Distance: 382 ft | VE: 62.88

Bryce Kurihara OF / LHP / Rio Americano High, CA / 2028

Kurihara is one of the more versatile athletes in the ‘28 class and one of the only switch hitters around the area, there were four total this event. Kurihara ran a 7.21, but his game speed plays a lot faster. On the right side there are a lot more base hits and line drives, on the left side he’s got a lot more carry and uphill in the swing, being left hand dominant plays a role in that. If he can increase his speed and quickness, centerfield is a spot he can stay at.

Highlights:

OF Velo: 82 mph | 60 YD: 7.21 | EV max: 102.1 mph | Max Distance: 352 ft | VE: 76.68

Lucas Bottoms RHP / OF / Los Gatos High, CA / 2028

Bottoms attends Los Gatos High School, a really good sized kid standing at 6’2” 164.5 lbs, he’s another two ways to keep some eyes on. On the mound, Bottoms ran his fastball up to 86.7 mph with a CH/SL mix. All pitches were thrown for strikes, he’s going to be a dual threat with his mixture of pitches. Bottoms is wiry and projects in the outfield, his 60 time was a 7.55, if he can manage to get that down I think the outfield can be a great second option. Bottoms definitely has a lot more in the tank on the mound.

Highlights:

OF Velo: 86 mph | 60 YD: 7.55 | EV max: 90.6 | Max Distance: 326 ft | FB Max: 86.7 mph

Conner Cleary C / 1B / Ukiah High, CA / 2028

Cleary has attended a handful of events in the last calendar year, but this one in particular he set a personal best with a pop time of 1.92 and a velocity of 75 mph. He reminds me a bit of a young Masen Belding. The bat is real with Cleary, with a spread out stance, he engages with the ground and knows how to use his legs. His hands are very fast and can get to the ball middle/inside. His BP had a lot of line drives mixed with some driven fly balls to the deepest part of the park.

Highlights:

C Velo: 75 mph | Max Distance: 372 ft  | EV max: 97.2 mph | Pop Times: 1.90-2.07

Fletcher Cahill OF / LHP / Menlo School, CA / 2028

This was the first time I got to see Cahill from the outfield and on the mound (6’0 170.9 lbs), I was impressed on both sides of the ball. Cahill has some thump in his bat and had above average barrel control in his rounds. His 7.30 60 yard dash translated to the outfield workout, he was able to move around with a good first step. On the bump, Cahill managed to run it up to 85.2 mph, mixing in a cutter which has a lot of late movement. With more innings after this season, I wouldn't be surprised to see a velo tick into the upper 80’s.

Highlights:

OF Velo: 83 mph | 60 YD: 7.30 | EV max: 94.3 | Max Distance: 361 ft | FB Max: 85.2 mph | VE: 74.44

Ben Jordan SS / 2B / Roseville High, CA / 2028

Jordan isn’t the biggest of the bunch, but he definitely plays like it. Jordan will be able to stick at SS because of his instincts and arm strength, the way he attacks the ball is a lot more efficient than a lot of other infielders. Jordan has a great sense of internal clock. His BP was spotty in the first half, but after getting warm he started to open up and drive some balls to the gap, he even took one off the base of the center field wall. Jordan is a very talented overall athlete, but his future is going to be on a baseball diamond.

Highlights:

INF Velo: 89 mph | 60 YD: 7.03 | EV max: 94.6 mph | Max Distance: 358 ft | VE: 70.11

Mason Harris 2B / 3B / Whitney High, CA / 2028

Harris has shown tremendous improvement since his last showcase in the Fall, the most impressive stat is his 60 yd dash on Feb 6th, 2025 was 8.25 seconds and now it's at a 7.17. Harris will start at SS for his high school and his arm has got much stronger and with his added quickness, he will be able to make a lot more plays than he’s used to. The bat has always been a plus tool for Harris, its a controlled voilence approach. Harris is set to have a breakout sophomore season, carrying the momentum right into summer.

Highlights:

INF Velo: 88 mph | 60 YD: 7.17 | EV max: 100.3 mph | Max Distance: 374 ft | VE: 59.87

Ali Cepeda Jr. OF / RHP / Alhambra Senior High, CA / 2028

Cepeda Jr. is a very athletic two-way player who is only breaking the surface when it comes to his true potential. With a full season under his belt, Cepeda Jr. has the tools to be that dynamic player that changes a team's momentum. He’s not the biggest guy but he can play with some fire, he moves well around in the outfield, with arm strength up to 87 mph. During the spring season, Cepeda Jr. was up to 90mph. In BP, Cepeda Jr. had easy oullside pop and the ability to wear out the middle of the field for base hits.

Highlights:

OF Velo: 87 mph | 60 YD: 7.19 | EV max: 94.2 mph | Max Distance: 340 | FB Max: 84.7 mph | VE: 74.08

Carter Grant LHP / 1B / Alameda High, CA / 2028

Grant showed up as a two-way for this event, he’s athletic enough to play 1B and hit in high school, but the southpaw has got a really special arm on the mound. He ran his fastball up to 88 mph with command of his secondaries, he's got a personality too, which will help down the road. It’s athletic and the arm is quick, the slider has some real bite to it too, by summer time Grant will have something to prove.

Highlights:

INF Velo: 84 mph | 60 YD: 7.11 | EV max: 90 mph | Max Distance: 324 | FB Max: 88 mph

Ryan Miller 1B / OF / Granite Bay High, CA / 2028

Miller has matured since his last event over a year ago, and he’s turning into quite the two-way prospect. Starting off with his 60 time is now a 6.97, he’s gained over 20lbs in the past year. He swings hard and with the intent to do damage. Miller’s arm has taken a leap and he has a real shot to be a gamechanger for Granite Bay High School this season.

Highlights:

INF Velo: 77 mph | 60 YD: 6.97 | EV max :98.9 mph | Max Distance: 364 | FB Max: 84.6 mph

Siale Kafoa Tulua 1B / RHP / St Francis High School, CA / 2028

A State Games standout this past summer, Tulua has put on about 10 lbs of muscle, and seems to be really growing into his body. The swing is very refined, his BP was spraying the ball from line to line. Stanford doesn’t have a small yard, but Tulua was sure making it seem small. He threw a bullpen and ran his fastball up to 84 mph, but there will be a lot more once his season starts.

Highlights:

INF Velo: 80 mph | 60 YD: 7.32 | EV max: 101.4 mph | Max Distance: 363 | FB Max: 84.1 mph

Justin Howard OF / SS / Montgomery High, CA / 2028

Howard is a switch-hitting outfielder from the Santa Rosa area, he’s coming off a huge freshman season for his high school. Looks like he’s added some strength in the weight room, the ball was coming off his bat loud in BP. On the left side Howard looks a lot more natural, on the right side his approach is toward the middle. The arm has to get stronger if he wants to play CF/RF. The speed is there and works better in games. Howard is going to be a name to keep tabs on in the ‘28 class.

Highlights:

OF Velo: 82 mph | 60 YD: 7.16 | EV max: 97.8 mph | Max Distance: 381 ft | VE: 57.1

Hudson Brown 1B / RHP / Whitney High, CA / 2028

Brown probably had the best days all around, it was his first Prep Baseball event and he didn’t disappoint. His physical frame is noticeable from the jump, then you see him run almost a 7.00 60, and for a kid who's 6’5” he can move. Brown’s arm stood out at the workout during 1B, but when he hopped on the mound, nearly topping out at 90 mph, the sophomore transfer has a very bright future.

Highlights:

INF Velo: 85 mph | 60 YD: 7.16 | EV max: 100.3 mph | Max Distance: 387 ft | FB Max: 89.8 mph

Class of 2027

Wyatt McElree RHP / SS / Redwood High, CA / 2027

McElree came this weekend as a position player and not a pitcher, which is where a lot of people are used to seeing him. But, in all honesty, the thought of him pursuing the hitting side is a possibility, McElree is a pure athlete. He’s still got a lot in his frame to fill out, but everything he does just looks easy. Whether that was his instincts during the defensive workout, or the loud cracks of his bat during batting practice. You’ll be hearing a lot more of McElree these next two years.

Highlights:

INF Velo: 86 mph | 60 YD: 7.07 | EV max: 102.9 mph | Max Distance: 408 ft | Bat Speed Max: 76.9

Bryce Farris 3B / OF / Whitney High, CA / 2027

Farris left on a hot note from the Future Games this past summer, seems like he didn’t skip a beat. Farris had one of the strongest outfield arms of the event, posted a sub 7.00 60 yd dash, EV’s were north of 98+, and he hit 90 mph on the mound. Safe to say, the kid is a swiss army knife on the baseball field. Farris recently decommitted from the United States Air Force Academy, so it’ll be interesting to see where he ends up, since he is still a junior.

Highlights:

OF Velo: 90 mph | 60 YD: 6.95 | EV max: 98.3 mph | Max Distance: 343 ft | FB Max: 90.3 mph

Mason Hackler SS / RHP / Turlock High, CA / 2027

Hackler put on about 15 lbs of muscle since the Future Games, his EV’s were at the top of the board at north of 107 mph. There was a new personal best on the mound for Hackler topping out at 88.9 mph. The strength and athleticism is there, Hackler’s defense has got a lot more polished too, more of a corner guy at the next level but his arm is looking promising on the mound. I can even see him playing the corners in the outfield because of the run and hit tool.

Highlights:

IF Velo: 86 mph | 60 YD: 7.04 | EV max: 107.3 mph | Max Distance: 353 ft | FB Max: 88.9 mph

Chase Thompson C / 3B / Whitney High, CA / 2027

Thompson had a great showing at Stanford, pretty much moving up all his numbers to personal bests. He’s got a catcher’s body with some good size, the ball comes off his bat hard and a lot of his power is to the middle of the field. Behind the plate, he looked like he took the off season seriously, the arm was working quick, the footwork was cleaned up, and the pop time was the lowest we’ve seen from Thompson.

Highlights:

C Velo: 78 mph | Max Distance: 382 ft  | EV max: 101.8 mph | Pop Times: 1.88-1.95

Nico Busalacchi 1B / RHP / Del Oro High, CA / 2027

Busalacchi is another athlete in the ‘27 class that has REAL power to all parts of the field, he displayed his pop in BP with a very impressive home run to dead center field. Busalacchi usually is at 1B, but he hopped in the outfield workout and managed to hold his own out there. For being 225 lbs, he can really move. He needs to refine the bat to ball skills, focus on getting his base hits, the power is definitely there.

Highlights:

OF Velo: 85 mph | 60 YD: 7.25 | EV max: 102.1 mph | Max Distance: 403 ft | Bat Speed Max: 81.9 mph

Giovanni Castaing C / RHP / Novato High, CA / 2027

Castaing immediately made his presence known as the first catcher in the defensive workout. He came out firing with throws in the low 80’s and very clean transfers.footwork. I admire Castaing when he hits because he has a mature BP, starts working the oppo/middle and then towards the end, he lets it eat. One of the best uncommitted catchers in the state, he’s in for a big junior year.

Highlights:

C Velo: 81 mph | Max Distance: 350 ft  | EV max: 98.7 mph | Pop Times: 1.87-1.95

Noah Baquiran C / 2B / Live Oak High, CA / 2027

This was my first time ever getting eyes on Baquiran and he’s a strong right handed hitting catcher, who's got some real juice in the bat. Defensively, his numbers were good but with some improvement, he’s going to make a school very happy. Baquiran had a velocity of 73 mph and a pop time between a 2.00-2.15. He had some of the best BP rounds on the day.

Highlights:

C Velo: 73 mph | Max Distance: 394 ft  | EV max: 102.3 mph | Pop Times: 2.00-2.15

Dalton Deadman OF / SS / Petaluma High, CA / 2027

Deadman does everything with intent and at full speed, the more I see Deadman, the more I like the way he plays. He walks around with a lot of energy and confidence, his arm is very strong in the OF and can play either RF or CF with his speed. Deadman has a sweet left handed swing, he was putting baseballs off the wall and in the trees at Sunken Diamond. The UCSB commit will be on a lot of people’s radar this upcoming season/summer.

Highlights:

OF Velo: 90 mph | 60 YD: 6.82 | EV max: 100.1 mph | Max Distance: 377 ft | Bat Speed Max: 72.9 mph

Ethan Reyzelman RHP / De LA Salle High School, CA / 2027

Reyzelman showed up in the pitchers group, he’s got a pitchers body, standing at 6’1” 196.4 lbs, he’s got an older brother who pitched at LSU and is currently in the Yankees farm system. Reyzelman has a plethora of pitches he threw down in the bullpen, with his fastball getting up to 89 mph. The secondaries for strikes is where Reyzelman was impressive, pounded all four quadrants and threw the ball with conviction. He will be a key factor in the De La Salle rotation this season.

Highlights:

FB Max: 89 mph (2000+) | CH: 75-76 (1400+) | SL: 70-72 (2300+) | SPL: 73-75 (750+)

Archer Schullstrom SS / SS / Alameda High, CA / 2027

Schullstrom had a great day, he’s got a combination of quick twitch and strength, even though it may not look like it because of the size, he’s a gamer. He plays beyond his years, Schullstrom looks as if he can slow the game down in the infield and at the plate. With some added strength in the future, he can be a premier shortstop who will hit and run.

Highlights:

INF Velo: 86 mph | 60 YD: 6.88 | EV max: 97.6 mph | Max Distance: 334 ft | Hard Hit %: 88.9

Damien Nolan RHP / 3B / Saint Mary's College High School, CA / 2027

Nolan had an event best fastball at 91 mph during his bullpen. He’s very athletic and can play multiple positions, but his arm is pretty special on the mound. Nolan has a number of secondaries, the one that stands out most is the kick-change. Nolan, also put up some high numbers in the offensive part of the workout.

Highlights:

IF Velo: 80 mph | 60 YD: 7.00 | EV max: 100.8 mph | FB Max: 90.6 mph

Class of 2026

Hudson Osterhout OF / 1B / Whitney High, CA / 2026

Osterhout ran a 6.8 in the 60’s, he;s got a 6’4” frame and it was wiry. He's coming back from an arm injury last season, so the arm is going to get stronger. The combination of speed and power he can produce will open a lot of doors for him in the future. It wouldn’t hurt to see some more development, but it’s very promising to see Osterhout showcase his abilities.

Highlights:

OF Velo: 81 mph | 60 YD: 6.83 | EV max: 98.5 mph | Max Distance: 357 ft | Bat Speed Max: 74.2 mph

Cameron Clouse C / 1B / Woodcreek, CA / 2026

Clouse is another physical backstop behind the dish standing at 6’4” 218.3 lbs, he’s made a lot of gains on and off the field, considering his pop time is now at a 1.92, and his velocity is a 76 mph. His power wasn’t on full display as I’ve seen in the past, but he’s got a big senior year ahead for him and the Woodcreek High School team.

Highlights:

C Velo: 76 mph | Max Distance: 334 ft  | EV max: 95.6 mph | Pop Times: 1.92-2.00

Julian Oliver SS / 3B / Novato High, CA / 2026

Oliver is shaping up for his senior year at Novato High School, he clocked in at a 6.88 60 yard dash, he was moving around at SS with quickness, the BP was a lot of line drives and hard hit ground balls (EV’s over 100+). Oliver is a two-way threat, on the mound he can really compete, during the last showcase he proved he can do both.

Highlights:

INF Velo: 82 mph | 60 YD: 6.88 | EV max: 100.5 mph | Hard Hit %: 77.8
