Today, we highlight the highest-ranked southpaw of the group, Colton Semmelmann (Brookfield Central, 2026).

Committed to South Carolina, Semmelmann was a Future Gamer in 2024 for Team Wisconsin, the left-handed pitcher is ranked No. 4 in the state's 2026 class, No. 206 nationally, and the No. 20 ranked LHP in the nation.

Scouting Report

7/17/25

We got a great look at the number one pitcher in the state of Wisconsin as he struck out seven across four innings. The lefty attacked hitters all morning with his 85-88 mph fastball, mixing in a 72-74 mph slider and 78-80 mph changeup. The South Carolina commit shows a loose, clean arm action from a 3/4 slot.

The South Carolina commit continues to impress. Last Week, Semmelmann had five hits in 11 at-bats, two doubles, two triples, and four RBIs.

South Carolina commit, currently ranked No. 4 in the state and No. 243 in the country. 6-foot-1, 191-pounds, durable build with some strength in the lower-half, still has room to fill out in the coming years. Started on the mound for Central, going three innings with just two hits allowed, two earned runs, four walks and eight strikeouts. The big southpaw is a loose mover, working into a coiled balance point while holding some pre-bend in the back knee down the mound, clean movement patterns, creates notable layback at footstrike. Clean arm, medium arm circle, ¾ slot. Collected whiffs on the fastball in the zone, playing with some finish and life through the zone at 90-91 mph, T92 mph early. Curveball showed big 1/7 shape and depth with sharp action, 71-74 mph, could land for strikes. Flashed a cutter with shorter lateral break, developing feel, 79-80 mph. Changeup flashed hard dive and was landing arm-side in warmups. High-ceiling arm, dynamic mover with more to come.

5/01/25

The Gamecocks recruit had a quality week at the plate and on the mound. In his start against Marquette, the southpaw tossed a seven inning no-hitter, allowing no runs, no hits, one walk, and struck out nine. At the plate, was 4-for-13 with a walk, double, three RBIs, and a stolen base.

4/19/25

South Carolina commit, one of the top left-handers in the Midwest, currently ranked No. 4 in the state’s junior class, standing at 6-foot-1, 191 pounds. Semmelmann got the start on the mound and tossed four innings striking out nine batters, walking three and allowing one unearned run. Simple and fluid mover that consistently works in rhythm and in sync, advanced feel for his entire arsenal, the fastball plays with life and carry at 88-90 T91 mph showing a swing and miss breaking ball at 74-79 mph and a 79-80 mph changeup that he throws to both handed batters.

2/26/25

+ LHP Colton Semmelman (Brookfield Central, 2026; South Carolina) proved why he is one of the top-ranked southpaws in the Midwest on Sunday, reaching a 91.8 mph high with the fastball, virtually sitting 90-91 mph throughout his ‘pen. He really extends down the mound, releasing the ball from a 5.6-foot release height on average, generating rise and run traits on the fastball. He separates himself from his peers with his secondaries, a high-spin curveball (2,620 rpm avg), 74-76 mph, with sharp action and depth, moving horizontally at over 15 inches on average. Semmelmann’s changeup is more than just a third pitch, it has -0.9-inch IVB on average with swing-and-miss fade that will deceive both-handed batters. He’s got an uber-smooth delivery with a very clean, quick arm that he consistently repeats, establishing himself as a high-follow junior in Wisconsin’s exciting 2026 class.
