West Houston Preseason ID: Outfielder Analysis

On Saturday, January 3rd, the PB Texas staff traveled to Cotton Ranch Sports Complex in Katy, TX, to host the West Houston Preseason ID, an open event for all high school classes.
More than 20 players made their way to Cotton Ranch this past weekend and participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Texas staff.

Today, we take a look at the scouting reports on every outfielder in attendance from the event.
ALL OUTFIELD PROSPECTS (LISTED ALPHABETICALLY)
Addison Johnson, Katy (TX), 2029
Positional Profile: 1B/LHP RHH/1B/OF Solid built frame to continue to develop strength. Hit over power now. Will improve hit ability and pop with adjustments and maturity. Feet and hands are solid defensively. Developing rhythm and timing. Avg arm strength now with more in the tank. LHP Strike thrower with both pitches. Repeatable delivery. Developing movement and shapes. Ability to throw with more velo in future. Watch development.
Body: 6-0, 235.5 pounds. Solid build/frame for added strength in future. Sloping shoulders. Width to back.
Hit: RHH. Slightly open stance in setup. Small leg lift load with rhythm to hands working into launch. Can shift more weight in lower half on stride. Work to inside part of back foot. Flat path with nice plane. Shows some hand speed. Continue weight shift into firm front side. 59.5 mph bat speed with 14g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 86 mph max exit velocity (75.8 avg.); 290-foot max batted distance. Hit over power now. Projects to nice hit/power combo with added strength and maturity.
Arm: LH. INF - 77 mph. OF - 74 mph. Compact/full path with with some hand speed present. Arm strength will improve with consistent long toss program.
Defense: Feet and gove work. Soft hands. Timing gets off on catch. Left/right catch combo with feet. Accelerate through catch.

Derrick King, Summer Creek (TX), 2027
Positional Profile: OF/1B LHH/OF Nice frame/build to add needed strength. Hit over power at the plate with some hand speed. Developing path. Solid runner. Projects to avg/above avg runner in future. Quick feet and soft hands in the OF. Quickness over raw arm strength. Will continue to develop with strength and maturity.
Body: 5-7, 162 pounds. Width to back and shoulders. Some core strength present. Projects to add strength in future.
Hit: LHH. Open stance in setup. Stays open at launch. Hands start high and stay elevated. Can hinge more in back hip to create more power and plate coverage. Hands can work to shoulder/arm pit height in order to create better path. Bat path works down and across. Hand position and hip hinge can flatten path and generate even more power. 63.1 mph bat speed with 20g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 94 mph max exit velocity (75.7 avg.); 298-foot max batted distance. Hit over power now. Projects to nice hit/power combo with added strength and maturity.

Jacob Owens, Tompkins (TX), 2027
Positional Profile: SS/OF RHH/INF/OF Athletic frame/build which projects well physically. Strong arm with a short compact path. Shows carry to ball. Solid actions defensively in OF and INF. Feet and glove work well. Rangy style defender. Shows a nice swing offensively with a short stroke and solid balance. Hit over power now. Projects to solid G2G style hitter. Very projectable.
Body: 5-8, 145 pounds. Good frame/build to add strength in future. Width to back and shoulders. Projects well physically.
Hit: RHH. Slightly open stance in setup. Small leg lift load working into an even launch. Hands generally work into good launch position. Athletic launch position. Can create some rhythm and movement to hands for added barrel speed. Flat bat path with solid plane. Generally works inside the ball when hands work to launch. Can firm up front leg and allow more weight to transfer into it through swing. 64.6 mph bat speed with 18g of rotational acceleration.

Positional Profile: C/OF RHH/C/OF Solid build/frame with projectable added strength. G2G style hitter with a short/compact swing. Shows some bat speed and barrel accuracy. Solid receiver behind the plate with soft hands and some mobility. Quick exchange with a nice short arm stroke. Has some feel for OF play. Feet work and accurate thrower. Watch progress.
Body: 5-9, 172.6 pounds. Solid build/frame for added strength in future. Sloping shoulders. Width to back.
Hit: RHH. Balanced setup with small leg lift for load. Good rhythm to feet and hands working into solid launch position. Direct path to zone with elbows and hands. Bat stays flat. Can clear body with back elbow a little more. Hit into firm front side. Don't allow front knee to roll out. 70.8 mph bat speed with 18g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 101 mph max exit velocity (93.5 avg.); 398-foot max batted distance. Nice hit/power combo. Projects as a true G2G style doubles hitter at next level.

Tanner Schneider, Conroe (TX), 2027
Positional Profile: C/2B RHH/C Nice frame to add needed strength in future. Hit over power style bat with short stroke. Stays inside the ball pretty well. Will continue to add power with maturity. Quickness over raw arm strength defensively. Shows nice receiving actions and good mobility on blocks. More mobile from 2 feet now. Developing 1 knee setups.
Body: 5-4, 139 pounds. Shows avg width to shoulders and back. Nice frame/build to add strength in future.
Hit: RHH. Balanced setup with a toe tap style load. Hands work into solid launch. Weight shifts into 50/50. Decent launch position. Works into the slot with back elbow and hands. Generally synced with lower half. Works short to long. Can firm up front side and allow weight to shift into leg more. 64 mph bat speed with 14g of rotational acceleration.
Power: 87 mph max exit velocity (79.2 avg.); 303-foot max batted distance. Hit over power. Projects to singles/doubles style hitter.
