We begin our spring high school previews and projections with a look at 15 "Picks to Click" as we inch closer to the 2026 baseball season. Highlighted in these stories are players that we believe are in contention for "Player of the Year" or "Pitcher of the Year" and we will give a detailed analysis, including video on each. Without further ado, the first player we would like to highlight is Duke University commit Leo Antwerpen from McDonogh.

Leo Antwerpen LHP / 1B / McDonogh School, MD / 2026

The top-ranked southpaw in the 2026 class is set to stack upon what was a highly impressive 2025 campaign. Behind Antwerpen's stellar performances on the bump, McDonogh ran through the MIAA "B" Conference, eventually capturing the title in dominant fashion.

Antwerpen features one of the more electric fastballs in the state, running the heater into the upper 80s/low 90s with ease and a keen ability to locate to both sides of the plate at will. The slider continues to sharpen and has shown to be a real out pitch to complement the fastball late in counts, and the addition of a killed-spin changeup out of the fastball tunnel makes for this to be a tough matchup against any opposing lineup. This class in particular is top-heavy with stellar arms (4 of which are in the MIAA), and if the Eagles look to be successful this spring following a jump into the “A” Conference, Antwerpen will need to repeat his success, and show why he is regarded as one of the top arms this state has to offer.
