Team Outlook
The South Beauregard Golden Knights have established themselves as one of the top programs in Class 3A, and despite some key departures from last season’s semifinal squad, the expectations in Longville remain the same—compete for a state championship. Head Coach Jeremy Deville will once again rely on a combination of pitching, defense, and a team-first culture to carry this new group deep into the postseason.
Top Returning Players
-Senior SS/RHP Jed Henry
Henry returns as the team’s unquestioned leader and spark plug at the top of the lineup. The senior hit .396 in 2025 with 28 runs scored and 24 RBIs, setting the tone offensively and defensively. One of the best shortstops Coach Deville has ever coached, Henry is a natural “ball hawk” who plays the game with a high baseball IQ and relentless energy. On the mound, he posted a 5-3 record, 3.01 ERA, and 2 saves while working in the low 80s with a well-mixed slider and changeup. His presence on both sides of the ball makes him one of the premier two-way players in the state.
-Junior 3B/RHP Alex Baggett
Baggett will be a vital part of South Beauregard’s lineup and rotation in 2026. The junior hit .301 with 19 RBIs and 20 stolen bases last spring and showed flashes of middle-of-the-order power. On the mound, Baggett logged 32 innings, going 2-3 with a fastball sitting 83–85 mph and topping out at 85. He pairs that with a tight slider and a developing changeup. Coach Deville describes him as a “grinder” who competes with pace and confidence.
-Junior OF/RHP Drew Smith
Smith hit .250 with 18 RBIs and 14 runs scored in 2025 while providing steady defense in the outfield. He’ll also return to the mound this season after not pitching last spring, where he’s expected to contribute meaningful innings. The 5’11”, 185-pound right-hander features a low-80s fastball with a sharp curveball and changeup. Smith’s experience and leadership in the outfield make him a valuable piece to this year’s core.
-Junior C Hunter Bellard
Bellard steps into a full-time catching role after gaining valuable experience the past two seasons behind all-district backstop Luke Fontenot. A solid defender with a 2.0–2.1 pop time, Bellard handles the pitching staff well and brings a steady, competitive presence behind the plate.
Underclassmen to Watch
-Freshman OF/RHP Drew Barrow
One of the most exciting freshmen in Southwest Louisiana, Barrow is a 5’10”, 170-pound athlete with 6.75 speed in the 60-yard dash. He handles the bat extremely well for his age and creates chaos on the bases. On the mound, he works in the low-80s, topping at 84 mph, mixing a fastball, curveball, and changeup. Barrow could play a major role in the Knights’ pitching staff this season, whether as a starter or high-leverage reliever.
-Sophomore INF/RHP Jackson Yellot
Yellot, a 6’1”, 185-pound sophomore, has shown significant strength gains this offseason and could be an impact bat with developing power. He’s also expected to contribute on the mound and provides valuable depth across the infield.
Outlook
It’s a new look for South Beauregard in 2026, but the expectations haven’t changed. The Golden Knights’ combination of veteran leadership, talented underclassmen, and a “team-first” mindset should keep them in the mix as one of the top programs in Division III Non-Select.
Coach Deville summed up the program’s approach best:
“Our goal every year is to be as good as we’re capable of being. If we achieve that, we’ll be in position to compete for a district and state title.”
With a strong junior class ready to step into bigger roles after learning behind two senior-heavy groups, South Beauregard once again looks poised to make noise in 2026—and another deep postseason run is well within reach.
