2026 High School Team Preview: Savannah Athletic Association

The 2026 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Georgia.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the GHSA or GIAA state playoffs, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Georgia. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each GHSA classification and Power 25.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each GHSA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

TEAM OUTLOOK

This is a first year program that is made up of the coaching staff and most of the same players from last year’s Coastal Homeschool Athletic Association. Change was needed to fit the needs of players and coaches which prompted the move to the SAA. Leading the way for the club is senior 2026 OF/LHP JW Castognia (Penn State Beaver) who will pace the offense and offer value on the mound as well. Uncommitted senior 2026 OF Saul Issa supplies senior leadership and consistency to the lineup. Fellow uncommitted juniors 2027 RHP/UTL Gabe Smith and 2027 UTL Elijah Powell offer a solid floor and will be dependable bats in the order, and bring flexibility defensively. Smith also looks to carry an important role out of the pen. 2027 RHP/INF Troy DeVoe, holds invaluable experience, as he was the ace of the Coastal Homeschool Athletic Association a year ago and anchors the staff as SP1. Junior LHP/OF Rafael LaSorsa follows DeVoe in the rotation and could be a source of power in the lineup as well. 2028 RHP Carson Little rounds out the rotation as he looks to take on an important role and give quality innings. Strengthening the depth of the staff is uncommitted senior RHP Patrick Thompson who projects as a midweek starter and pounds the zone with strikes. 2028 Owen Arden is a high-level competitor that fits the mold of Jaguars and looks to make an impact. Freshman C Abraham Contreras has made significant strides in his game this offseason and has a chance to carry an everyday role. Coach Macias and the Jaguars look to be successful on a nightly basis backed by confidence in the pitching staff.
