The 2026 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Andress Eagles enter the 2026 season with significant momentum following a successful 2025 campaign. Last year, the program broke a three-year drought by reaching the postseason, finishing the year as 5A Bi-District Finalists with a 13-14 record. Under the leadership of Head Coach Ernesto Torres, who has secured 26 career wins over two seasons, the Eagles will lean heavily on their defense, which is cited as a primary team strength heading into the new year.

The roster is anchored by a veteran core of five returning position players and four returning pitchers. The outfield appears particularly strong with District Defensive MVP Drew Switzer and Second Team All-District selection Abram Saldivar-Sanders both returning for their senior seasons. They are joined by fellow seniors Israel Carrillo, Axel Carrillo, a First Team All-District infielder, and RHP/3B Cris Duran. Junior Cody Valerio also returns to the hot corner after earning Honorable Mention All-District honors last season.

While the team lost Sean Saiz to El Paso Community College, the infusion of young talent like sophomore newcomer Edgard Maldonado provides fresh depth to the lineup. As the Eagles aim for a return trip to the playoffs, their experienced senior class and defensive identity will be the foundation of their 2026 season.
