The #11 The First Academy Royals (Class 2A) enter the Preseason Power 25 as the reigning FHSAA Class 2A state champions, fresh off a dominant 30-4 season in 2025 that culminated in a 7-2 victory over top-ranked Trinity Christian Academy in the state final. This marked the program's second baseball state title in history, powered by senior ace Thomas Achey's standout pitching performance and timely hits from Erick Martinez, Kinon Bastian, and Remo Indomenico in the championship game.

Head Coach: Alan Kunkel

2025 Recap: Finished 30-4 overall (2-0 district), earning the Class 2A state championship with a deep postseason run.

Key Departures: Blake Fields, Austin Pierzynski, Erik Martinez, Remo Indomenico, Roy Rodriguez, Kyle Hopper, Thomas Achey (seniors who led the championship run).

Top Returners and Newcomers:

A talented but inexperienced group shifting focus to the process, with strong arms and offensive upside from commits.

  • Top Returning Players:
    • (2027) Kinon Bastian - OF (University of Florida commit)
    • (2026) Canon Koronka - SS (University of North Florida commit)
    • (2026) Isaiah Comas - OF/RHP (Santa Fe State College)
    • (2026) Tyler Arafet - RHP/1B
    • (2027) Alexander Roman - RHP
    • (2026) Max Simmons - Utility
    • (2026) Ryon Smith - RHP/1B

Projected Starting Pitchers: Tyler Arafet (senior RHP/1B), Alexander Roman (junior RHP), Ryon Smith (strike-thrower), Isaiah Comas (two-way support)—emphasis on throwing strikes and solid defense.

Projected Starting Lineup: SS - Canon Koronka, 2B - Aidan Williams, CF - Kinon Bastian, RF - Isaiah Comas, DH/P - Ty Arafet, LF - Jaxson Wells, 1B - Max Simmons, 3B - Jonah Reeves, C - Johnny Parkinson (young but capable group).

Impact Underclassmen: Aidan Williams (versatile contributor)—poised to help in a lineup needing quick adaptation.

Team Outlook:

Strengths: Ability to throw strikes and play solid defense; mound highlighted by seniors Arafet, Smith, Comas, and junior Roman.

Coach's Quote: "This team is talented but very inexperienced. Our success will come down to how quickly these guys forget about 2025 and focus on preparing for 2026. The process must be the focus. The team will be highlighted offensively by Kinon Bastian, who has tons of offensive talent, but must find protection in the lineup from Canon Koronka, Aidan Williams, Isaiah Comas, and company. The strength of the team is on the mound, highlighted by seniors Tyler Arafet, Ryon Smith, and Isaiah Comas, and supported by talented Jr. Alexander Roman."

Standout Players:

  • Top Seniors (2026): Canon Koronka (SS, UNF), Ty Arafet (RHP/1B), Ryon Smith (RHP/1B), Isaiah Comas (OF/RHP).
  • Top Juniors (2027): Kinon Bastian (OF, Florida), Alexander Roman (RHP), Jaxson Wells, Johnny Parkinson, Jacob Zerquera.

Key Games to Watch: Loaded with premier events: PG High School Showdown (Feb 26-28), vs. Jesuit (Mar 14), vs. American Heritage Plantation (Mar 27), vs. IMG National (Apr 7). Full schedule on MaxPreps.

At #11 in the Preseason Power 25, the defending Class 2A champs are reloading around Florida commit Kinon Bastian and a strike-throwing staff—inexperience is the challenge, but if the process clicks, The First Academy could defend their title and stay in the statewide mix.
