Narrows Baseball Scout Day - Quick Hits
January 20, 2026
On Saturday January 17th, Prep Baseball Washington hosted the Narrows Baseball Scout Day at Gig Harbor Baseball Academy in Gig Harbor WA. Prep Baseball scouts evaluated high school athletes in the 2026-2030 graduating classes, with several strong showings throughout the event.
Preseason events serve as an identifier heading into the spring high school season, providing Prep Baseball scouts and college recruiters a list of prospects to follow as they plan their spring coverage. We also tend to see prospects’ best performances in the preseason, as most athletes are fresh and coming off of strict and targeted off-season training programs that have resulted in big gains. Standout performances can lead to invitations to some of the summer's biggest invite-only events, including the Pacific Northwest State Games, Prep Baseball Future Games, and more.
Today, Prep Baseball releases our Quick Hits, detailing scouting notes on standout players from the event. Players are listed alphabetically by last name. For all other post-event content, click here.
Narrows Baseball Scout Day
Quick Hits
'30 INF/RHP Brandon Cohen (Peninsula)
The young athlete showed some intriguing tools and will be a name to watch moving forward. Sets in a quiet, upright setup at the dish with a direct barrel path to contact. Displayed barrel accuracy with a slight uphill path and high two-handed finish. Laced balls hit up to 300 feet, more power should develop as he matures. Actions fit for a left side of the infield player defensively and displayed a three pitch mix from the right side on the mound as well.
'28 INF/OF Jason Coray (Gig Harbor)
Athleticism and some twitch present in 5'9, 155 pound frame. Sets with a wider base at the plate, working through a longer toe-tap into contact with a long, whippy barrel path through the zone. Aggressive through contact with a peak exit velocity of 89.9 MPH and a max batted ball distance of 324 feet. Arm strength present both from the infield and outfield with a best throw of 83 MPH, showing cleaner actions in an indoor setting.
'28 OF/RHP Evan Fulghum (Peninsula)
Fluid mover with arm talent in 6'0 frame with strength evenly distributed. Pounded the bottom part of the strike zone in his bullpen with a FB/CH combination. Simple operation from the stretch, setting from slight 1B side with a slightly closed land and a high 3/4 slot release. Some whip and easy layback present in the arm action resulting in a fastball up to 84.7 MPH. Killed spin well and generated horizontal with the CH. Also worked exit velocities up to 92.9 MPH at the plate, maintaining a tighter coil in his RH swing. Name to know.
'27 INF/RHP KaiNoah Leckenby (Peninsula)
Stocky-strong 5'10 frame with a well-rounded showing over the weekend. Sinks deeper into his lower half at the plate with an open stance, closing at stride with a firm front side at contact. Flatter barrel path resulted in exit velocities up to 92.4 MPH with consistent flush contact. On the mound, the righthander worked his heater up to 82.6 MPH with three lower-spin offspeed deliveries in his CH/SL/CB. Two-way ability should give the junior a real chance to contribute to Peninsula's varsity squad this spring.
'28 C/OF Skyler Nghiem (Bainbridge)
The talented backstop of the 2A state champs displayed his game after a previous strong look at an event last summer. Carries a heavier barrel through the zone with some loft created to the pull side at impact. Posted exit velocities into the low-90's in this look and was up to 94 MPH last summer. Showcased some added strength and arm talent in this look, with throws up to 84 MPH from the outfield and 75 MPH in catcher defense drills. Underclassman to know.
'28 INF/RHP Sawyer Payne (Gig Harbor)
Lean, medium-framed sophomore showed sound actions in all aspects of his game. More of a contact-over-pop style at the plate with feel for the barrel shown and consistent line drive contact produced. Hands stay loaded and on plane well with a closed front side at contact. Middle INF type actions shown defensively with throws up to 80 MPH. Also worked his fastball up to 80 MPH from a lower 3/4 slot release with a 2700 RPM curveball as his best offering.
'28 INF/RHP Daniel Sleeter (Gig Harbor)
The 10th ranked sophomore in Washington can do it all, and set several new showcase-best metrics in this look. High-intent swing with a flatter approach from the right side and more lofted, longer path from the left side. Drives the ball on a line and in the air from both sides of the plate, peaking with a 99.3 MPH exit velocity in this look. Generated throws up to 90 MPH from the infield with arm strength that translated to the mound. Higher-spin heater carries to the top of the zone, sitting 85-86 T87 MPH. Displayed several new offspeed pitches that flashed as well. Must-follow in the class.
'28 C/INF Hawken Smith (Gig Harbor)
Intriguing profile with a 6'1, 205 pound frame. Put together one of the more impressive showings in BP, generating plus bat speed from the right side with a pull-heavy approach. Drove pitches consistently with a peak exit velocity of 93.6 MPH and an average of 86.3 MPH. Some defensive versatility shown at 3B and C, showing confidence and skill at each spot. Bat has real chance to play at the varsity level this spring.
