PBKC Top Throw Tool Class of 2027: Cooper Vais

LJ Hatch

As we look back on the 2025 summer tournament circuit here in Kansas City, we’ll be breaking down the top players by tool from each class — based on evaluations from our scouting team at Homefield and Creekside. Follow along as we take a deep dive into these players and highlight the summers they put together. Each week will feature our top five players based on each tool from the class, presented in no particular order.

Cooper Vais RHP / SS / Arvada West, CO / 2027

Cooper Vais is one of the best overall athletes on our list, standing out as a top runner, power bat, and thrower. Originally seen as a shortstop and right-handed pitcher, Vais has since transitioned to center field, a move that allows him to fully utilize his speed while preserving his arm for the mound. He committed to Texas in September and projects to make an impact in a variety of ways.

When it comes to arm talent, Vais was among the best we saw in his class this year, and for good reason. He has been up to 91 mph on the mound, but what earns him a spot on this list is his 95 mph outfield velocity. He put on an outstanding performance at the 2025 Future Games, where his outfield velocity paired with a 6.67 60-yard dash produced the highest power/speed score (outfield velocity divided by 60-yard dash) of the entire event at 16. We’re excited to see what the next few years hold for Vais and hope to see him back in Kansas City more this coming season.
