As we look back on the 2025 summer tournament circuit here in Kansas City, we’ll be breaking down the top players by tool from each class based on evaluations from our scouting team at Homefield and Creekside. Follow along as we take a deep dive into these players and highlight the summers they put together. Each week will feature our top five players based on each tool from the class, presented in no particular order.

Top Off-Speed Class of 2028

Ty Tanksley RHP / 1B / Cabot, AR / 2028

One of the top fastballs in the 2028 class, Ty Tanksley also features a banger of a slider, arguably the best breaking ball we saw from the class all year. It’s a true swing-and-miss out pitch.

Tanksley made multiple trips to Kansas City this year, competing at both Homefield and Creekside during the Midwest Premier Super 15 and the Central Super Sophomore Games. In his KC outings, he consistently dominated by leaning on the fastball, but whenever he needed a strikeout or a big swing-and-miss, the slider got it done.

At the Super Sophomore Games, his slider averaged 2,687 RPM, peaked at 2,784 RPM, and was thrown as hard as 80 mph. What makes it so devastating is the depth and late bite. His combination of velocity and spin allows the pitch to stay flat longer before breaking hard, making it extremely difficult for hitters to pick up. The movement plays more like an 11-to-4 shape, with roughly 8 inches of horizontal break and 3 inches of downward movement. While the raw numbers aren’t massive, the speed and late action make it a nightmare to square up.
