Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2026 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

West Point enters the 2026 season looking to take a step forward in Class 5A, Area 14 after a 14-18 finish in 2025. While the wins didn’t always show up in the standings, the Warriors bring back a core that logged significant varsity innings and at-bats, giving this group a much more experienced look heading into the spring. With a blend of proven upperclassmen and talented underclassmen, West Point expects improved depth and consistency across the roster as it prepares for one of the tougher areas in 5A North.

The lineup and staff are anchored by several returning contributors who impacted games on both sides of the ball a year ago. C Charlie Ashley (2026) returns after a standout offensive season in which he hit .400 with 11 doubles, 17 RBIs, and a .500 OBP. INF/RHP Boston Freeman (2026) provides value on both sides, logging 38.1 innings with 39 strikeouts while also hitting .283 with eight doubles and a .459 OBP. OF/RHP Cooper Howard (2026) adds another two-way option after striking out 34 in 23.2 innings and posting a .256 average at the plate. INF/RHP Titan Thornton (2027) is another key piece, throwing 40.1 innings with 26 strikeouts while driving in 26 runs and collecting 11 doubles. The underclass group adds depth and upside, led by INF/RHP Skylar Echols (2028), who logged 12.0 innings with 14 strikeouts, along with OF Carter McAfee (2028), OF Max Patterson (2028), 1B Logan Campbell (2028), and 3B/RHP Jackson Nichols (2029). OF/RHP Dawson Crow (2027) also returns to add another experienced option to the mix.

Looking ahead, West Point’s strengths lie in its returning varsity experience and growing depth, with a roster that blends seasoned contributors and younger players ready to take on bigger roles. Head coach Tyler Morgan summed it up well: “We are excited about the upcoming year. Several of our older guys have started and played a lot of varsity baseball for us over the years. Our under-classmen are talented and eager to make an impact. The guys have really bought in over the off-season. We look forward to seeing how we stack up in one of the toughest areas in 5A North.” With that foundation, the Warriors will look to turn experience and depth into a more competitive 2026 campaign.
