As the 2026 California high school season came to a close, plenty of standout performances filled scorecards across the state. Throughout the spring, there was no shortage of memorable individual outings in games captured firsthand by our Prep Baseball California staff during the season.
Over the course of two weeks, this series will count down my top 10 single-game standout performances seen across the greater San Diego area during the 2026 spring season, highlighting some of the top individual efforts from around the region.
Checking in at No. 9 is 2029 corner INF Dylan Hood after one of the more impressive freshman performances seen all spring. In the same matchup that featured No. 10 on this countdown, Hood helped lead Torrey Pines High School to a league victory over Mission Hills with a massive offensive showing, finishing 4-for-4 with five RBIs while consistently squaring up baseballs throughout the game.
The freshman standout operates with a soft-footed stride and a compact path through the zone, staying balanced throughout the swing and producing hard line-drive contact to all fields. Hood showed a strong feel for the barrel throughout the performance and continued to look comfortable in big spots despite being one of the younger players in the game. The multi-sport athlete also stands out as a quarterback on the football field, where the arm strength clearly translates to the diamond.
The outing was part of a strong freshman campaign for Hood, who finished the spring hitting .349 with 30 hits, 18 RBIs, 3 doubles, and a home run. Hood is a 2029 name that looks poised to continue gaining traction over the coming years in San Diego.
Stay tuned as the countdown continues with more of the top single-game performances seen this spring, next with No. 8.
