Spring Risers: Climbing the North Carolina Class of 2027 Rankings

The latest update to the North Carolina Class of 2027 Rankings reflects a spring season full of player development, breakout performances, and updated evaluations from the Prep Baseball scouting staff. Throughout the high school season, our scouts were on the road evaluating players in game action across the state, allowing us to compare preseason expectations with live performance against quality competition.

For some prospects, the spring provided confirmation of tools that had already shown up in workout settings and showcase environments. For others, game performance and continued physical development helped elevate their standing inside the class. As a result, several players made significant jumps in the updated rankings.

Below, we take a closer look at six prospects whose stock continued to rise throughout the spring season.

Caleb Lynn | OF/LHP | Cleveland HS

No. 16 → No. 11

UNC Wilmington commit. One of the premier athletes in the class, Lynn continues to trend upward as his overall game matures. The left-handed hitter brings an intriguing combination of speed, athleticism, and offensive upside, while also providing value on the mound. Throughout the spring, Lynn showed the ability to impact games in multiple ways, reinforcing his status as one of the top prospects in North Carolina.

Video Spotlight:

Scout Notes: Left handed hitter is a feared when on the bases with game-changing speed. The speed also plays in the outfield. His quality of at-bat took a giant step forward as Lynn continued to showed solid strike zone feel and seemed to approach at-bats with a plan. On the bump, the pure athleticism plays and could impact his status at the next level.

Sam Rice | LHP | Reagan HS

No. 106 → No. 91

Rice made a strong move inside the rankings after continuing to develop as one of the more intriguing left-handed arms in the state. The combination of projectability, feel for pitching, and a developing arsenal gives evaluators plenty to follow as he enters an important summer.

Video Spotlight:

Scout Notes: While Rice shows well in bullpen settings at Showcases, it is his ability to read and react with live hitters in the box. The stuff seems to play up as hitters struggle to square him up consistently. HIs ability to add and subtract on his arsenal throughout games has allowed him to work deeper, saving some of his best stuff for high leverage situations. Rice has piled up wins in the Raiders uniform the past two spring seasons.

Sidney Dale | LHP | South Brunswick HS

No. 162 → No. 96

One of the largest jumps in the rankings update, Dale used the spring season to establish himself as a rising left-handed pitching prospect. The athletic southpaw showed improved consistency and confidence while continuing to develop physically. His ability to compete in game settings and fill the strike zone helped elevate his profile throughout the season.

Video Spotlight:

Scout Notes: While our staff had Dale on the radar, it was this spring where we were able to witness the full stable of pitches and how he can attack hitters. Still developing into a frame that has length, the stuff should continue to grow. The breaking ball shows flashes of being an out pitch as it continues to pace the overall stuff.

Addison Terry | C | Oak Grove HS

No. 229 → No. 120

Terry made one of the biggest moves in the class following a spring that showcased both offensive development and continued growth behind the plate. Catchers often separate themselves through consistency and leadership, and Terry's overall profile continued to trend upward throughout the season.

Video Spotlight:

Scout Notes: One of our initial evaluations on Terry was as he was battling an injury issue. Now completely healthy, the body has more athleticism and quickness. The hit tool will lead his prospect status and Terry has shown an ability to get to advanced stuff while punishing those without an out-pitch. Looking to do damage, this spring was very productive as he pounded out 9 home runs.

Gavin Mosler | C/OF | Millbrook HS

No. 279 → No. 123

Mosler's rise reflects a spring season that placed him firmly on the radar of the scouting staff. The versatile athlete showed the ability to impact games offensively while providing defensive flexibility. Continued physical development and on-field production helped drive significant movement in the rankings.

Video Spotlight:

Scout Notes: Seeing players in different lights and positions can add to their value. Mosler has an athletic build with strength present. This spring we ran into him playing CF, adding to his defensive value. The left handed hitter flashes positive traits in the box that should continue to grow as he sees better and better arms. The bet is Mosler will continue to develop into his body as there is plenty of room to his ceiling.

Greyson Evans | OF | North Lincoln HS

No. 237 → No. 143

Evans turned a strong spring season into one of the more notable jumps in the rankings update. The outfielder continued to show athleticism and offensive upside while proving capable of impacting games against quality competition. The combination of tools and production gives him considerable momentum entering the summer season.

Video Spotlight:

Scout Notes: Evans pace the Knights to a State Championship run from the leadoff position. While there are several traits that shine in the showcase environment, Evans saw his overall player grade bump considerably because of the way he uses his tool set. Offensively, he set an early tone with aggressive patience – seeing a bunch of pitches but hammering fastballs in his zone. Once on base, the present speed is plenty to create some havoc. Evans is willing to use the entire field, making the defense play line to line and plate to fence in each of his at-bats.

The summer evaluation period is now underway, and these six players have positioned themselves to continue climbing. With events such as the NC/SC Border Battle, Program Invite tournaments, the Senior Future Games, and the Tobacco Road State Games on the horizon, there will be no shortage of opportunities for additional movement within the North Carolina Class of 2027 Rankings.
