Trinity Christian Academy made quick work of the 2026 FHSAA Class 2A State Championship field, winning both of their tournament games by a combined score of 15-6 and never trailing after the third inning in either contest. Jordan Martinez was the offensive engine throughout, and a pitching staff anchored by Ethan Wheeler in the semifinal and Brennan Bachtell in the championship gave the Conquerors the foundation to capture the state title.

Semifinal: Trinity Christian Academy 7, Lakeland Christian 2
Trinity Christian Academy opened tournament play Monday morning by rallying past Lakeland Christian, 7-2, behind a patient approach at the plate and a dominant pitching performance from Ethan Wheeler. Wheeler went six innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out seven and walking two. Romy DeCenzo came on to pitch a clean seventh and close it out, issuing one walk while allowing no hits.

Lakeland Christian jumped in front early, scoring twice in the top of the first on a Parker Kant groundout and a Maclain Irby double to right field. But Trinity Christian’s deep lineup wore down the Lakeland pitching staff. Aiden Arnett singled in two runs in the fourth to break the tie, and Jordan Martinez followed immediately with a run-scoring single of his own to push the lead to 6-2. The two combined for six RBI in the game. Brady Harris was the catalyst at the top of the order, going 2-for-2 with two triples.

Semifinal I: True North Classical Academy 9, Berkeley Prep 4
True North made a statement Monday afternoon, pouring out 16 hits in a 9-4 victory over Berkeley Prep to advance to the championship game. William Foss worked 6.2 innings to earn the win, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out six. Alex Diaz finished it off with .2 of a scoreless inning in relief.
True North jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning when Evan Alexander singled in a run, and Carlos Victorero doubled to plate two more. The Titans spread the wealth throughout their lineup. Noah Gamboa led the team with three hits from the nine spot, and Victorero, Kash Ojeda, and Mikey Cuenca each drove in two runs. Danilo Bossano added a double and an RBI, and Matias Fischer contributed two hits. The Titans’ five-run seventh inning capped the afternoon, with Cuenca singling in two and Bossano and Ojeda each delivering an RBI as well.

Berkeley Prep stayed in it through six innings before the late outburst put it out of reach. Riley Zinober and Ben O’Brien each had two hits for the Bucs. Nolan Parmer started but allowed four runs in three innings, and the bullpen couldn’t hold back a True North offense that just kept producing throughout.

State Championship: Trinity Christian Academy 8, True North Classical Academy 4
The championship game Tuesday evening featured a crucial third inning on both sides that ultimately decided the 2A title. Trinity Christian Academy led 3-0 heading into the top of the third when True North rallied for three runs to knot the score. But rather than let the momentum shift, the Conquerors answered with five runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to go up 8-3, and they never looked back.
Jordan Martinez was the centerpiece of TCA’s offense once again, going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI. His run-scoring double in the second extended the lead to 3-0, and his two-run single in the decisive third inning delivered the knockout blow. Tyler Ellis was equally impressive, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI, and Jarod Flowers added two hits.

Starter Brennan Bachtell worked five innings for Trinity Christian, allowing four runs, two earned, on four hits. He navigated True North’s lineup with enough consistency to keep the Conquerors in front, and when DeCenzo took over in the sixth, he was lights out again, two scoreless innings, five strikeouts, and one hit allowed.
True North made it interesting. After their third-inning three-run burst, Evan Alexander, Mikey Cuenca, and Victorero each drove in a run to keep the deficit manageable. Shawn Otero came on in relief and turned in 3.2 scoreless innings to stem the bleeding, but with the Conquerors already ahead by five, there wasn’t enough game left to complete the comeback.
