Mizuno Player & Pitcher of the Week: Week 8

Prep Baseball Tennessee Staff

Each week during the high school season, we will recognize the Mizuno Player and Pitcher of the Week for standout performances across the state. Throughout the season, numerous athletes continue to post impressive numbers both at the plate and on the mound. Based on nominations submitted by high school coaches statewide, one Pitcher of the Week and one Player of the Week will be selected. A special thank you to Mizuno for sponsoring these awards throughout the season.

Please note that all submissions for POTW are submitted by high school coaches. Thank you to all coaches who submitted this week! 👏

Let's take a look at the Mizuno Player and Pitcher of the Week for Week 8 of the 2026 spring season.

MIZUNO PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Clayton Speck SS / 3B / Briarcrest Christian School, TN / 2026

Clayton Speck turned in one of the most productive stretches of the week, putting together an eye-opening performance across three games. The right-handed hitter went 9-for-11 at the plate, consistently finding the barrel and doing damage, highlighted by a double and two home runs while driving in four runs. Speck showed a balanced approach with the ability to impact the baseball to all fields, and his 2.288 OPS during the span speaks to just how dominant he was offensively. A locked-in presence at the plate all week, Speck played a major role in his team’s success and is a deserving Player of the Week selection.

MIZUNO PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Kamden Welch 1B / LHP / Oak Ridge , TN / 2026

Kamden Welch delivered a dominant performance on the mound, tossing a complete-game no-hitter over seven innings against Gibbs while racking up 11 strikeouts. The left-hander controlled the game from start to finish, consistently attacking the zone and keeping hitters off balance with his ability to miss bats. Welch showed poise and command throughout the outing, never allowing the opposition to generate any offensive rhythm. A statement performance on the mound, Welch’s no-hit effort stands out as one of the top pitching performances of the week.
