The Prep Baseball Virginia/DC staff makes their way across the Commonwealth and DC throughout the spring to assist high school players in gathering evaluations, including video and some data, that allow our staff to assist in the potential recruitment of student-athletes.

With the staggering start of private and public schools, we have a deeper collection of notes and video on players in this edition of the Ground Forces Scout Blog.

Bishop O'Connell

Shota Fogus RHP / OF / Bishop O'Connell, VA / 2026

Fogus, the Richmond signee, got the start in the WCAC Championship and competed through 4.2 frames. Fogus struck out 8 hitters while allowing three earned runs. In the first and second, Fogus worked between 88 and 90, topping 92. Fogus added extra intent into his fastball late in counts. He showed a strong feel for his slider in any count and mixed in a changeup to left-handed hitters.

Bryant James SS / Bishop Denis J. Oconnell High School, VA / 2026

James put his mark on the WCAC Championship on the second pitch of the game. He turned around a 90 mph fastball deep over the left field fence for an early 1-0 lead. There’s also no denying the athleticism of the University of Virginia signee, showing range and impact on the basepaths in front of our staff.

Walker McElwain 1B / 3B / Bishop Denis J. Oconnell High School, VA / 2027

The uncommitted junior put together another strong performance in front of our staff in the WCAC Championship. McElwain put together a three-hit day, including an RBI single in the third. McElwain has shown a strong hit tool and ability to hit to all fields but also adds impact to the pull side. He is an uncommitted bat to circle ahead of this summer.

Chaz Walker OF / 1B / bishop o'connnell, VA / 2026

Walker made a loud impact on the WCAC Championship, demolishing a two-run homer in the third inning. He was on time and lifted a no-doubter out to left field. Walker has continued to make an impact in the middle of the O’Connell order, and Friday night was no different.

Jack Woda C / OF / Bishop Denis J. Oconnell High School, VA / 2026

The East Carolina signee showed up in the WCAC Championship, tallying two hits, including a double to the RCF gap in the first inning. Woda also swiped a bag and would score shortly after. Behind the plate, Woda would perform a quick block & recover to catch a runner trying to steal third base. Overall, another great performance.

Cape Henry

Christopher Martinez SS / Cape Henry Collegiate School, VA / 2026

A stolen base and multi-hit game from Martinez, including a home run in the first inning to jump start the offense for Cape Henry. A contact driven bat that was a spark in the top of the order.

Goochland

Chase Hicks C / 1B / Goochland High, VA / 2029

Physical frame that is a presence at the plate. Another strong showing from the freshman, reaching base all four times he stepped up. He helped spark a clutch 8-run inning by taking a first-pitch offering to deep right-center for a double.

Jefferson Forest

TJ McLaughlin LHP / 1B / Jefferson Forest High, VA / 2026

Another quality start rolling into the backend of the season, only surrendering two hits and picking up 8 strikeouts. Showed feel for all three pitches, with the ability to land them for strikes. FB at 86-87 throughout the start, touching 88 in the first with some ASR. Slider usage was early and often with a late hard break, 75-78. CH grabbed a handful of strikeouts at 81-83.

Ocean Lakes

Tre Hamilton OF / OF / Ocean Lakes, VA / 2026

Had a strong performance at the plate, going 3-4 on the day with 2 singles and a triple. Twitchy athlete with some versatility that can play multiple positions.

Aiden Skalski LHP / Ocean Lakes High, VA / 2028

Absolutely carved through five innings of work. Had all three pitches working for strikes. Had some real uncomfortable swings on the change-up. He is a competitor on the mound and threw 66 percent strikes while working at a quick pace. Had a perfect game going into the last inning with two outs.

St. Anne's Belfield

Haden Morris RHP / SS / St Anne's-Belfield School, VA / 2027

Incredible and gutsy performance out of the bullpen to help St. Anne’s-Belfield get the win. 3.2 innings of relief work, surrendering zero runs at a 67% strike percentage. Fastball was up to 85 and showed feel for the changeup in any count.

Paul VI

Ryan Bahr 3B / RHP / St Paul Vi Catholic High School, VA / 2028

The sophomore got the ball for #2 Paul VI in the WCAC Championship and did not back down. Bahr turned in three competitive innings, giving up four runs to a top-ranked offense and tallying two strikeouts. After giving up two extra base hits in the first, Bahr bounced back quickly in the second to keep PVI in the contest. Bahr has a long-levered 6'5", 205-lb frame, whose athleticism also translates to the basketball court. Bahr worked his fastball in the 89-91 range in his first two frames, with the velocity coming rather effortlessly from the lanky right-hander. He was able to work in the zone with the fastball and deliver competitive pitches. Bahr also mixed in a slider from 75-77 and a changeup in the low 80s in any count. His slider was his primary secondary offering, landing both front door and to the glove side with 10-5 movement. Bahr has a simple and repeatable delivery with more left in the tank.

At the plate, Bahr delivered an impact in the middle of the order. He drove two runs in, with his first coming on a sac-fly to right field. His second RBI came on a hard-hit single into left field to give the PVI Panthers the lead in the bottom of the 6th. Bahr has an upright swing from his tall frame with a quick bat. He also showed an ability to hit breaking balls, with his RBI single coming on a slider low in the zone. Defensively, Bahr moved to third base after his time on the mound and held his own, showing his arm strength can translate from the mound to the hot corner. Bahr already has made a large impact for the Paul VI Panthers this season and should only continue to improve and make a larger impact as he matures.

Aiden Gallagher RHP / C / St Paul Vi Catholic High School, VA / 2026

The JMU signee and Prep Baseball Future Games alum showed up in the WCAC Championship with a multi-hit performance. Gallagher tallied two crucial hits, leading to two runs crossing home plate. One was a single flown to the outfield to continue PVI’s comeback, and the other was a hard hit single to the pull side to extend the Panthers’ lead to 7-5. Behind the plate, Gallagher was also able to make an impact by throwing out a runner trying to steal second in the second inning.

Thomas Jewett SS / 2B / St Paul Vi Catholic High School, VA / 2026

The Radford signee was a major contributor to the PVI offense in the WCAC Championship, tallying two knocks and an RBI. His RBI came on a double rope to the opposite gap in the third. Jewett was also comfortable at shortstop, making multiple plays and turning a quick double play.

Owen Peltier OF / 2B / St Paul Vi Catholic High School, VA / 2026

Peltier made his impact on the WCAC Championship, reaching base three times, scoring three runs, and being a sure glove in center field. Leading off for the Panthers, Peltier set the table for the core of the order and used his speed to score crucial runs. The VMI signee’s speed also translated to center field, where he showed range and that he wasn’t afraid to lay out for a ball.
